Sim City 2013, bitches.

EA Reports Second Quarter Fiscal Year 2009 Results

If that's what you call a flop you must sell a shitload of logos.

Spore was a "success" mostly due to hype a pre-orders. When released it was a huge backlash that was covered for several weeks and even gained "mainstream" media attention. The thousands of negative reviews were so overwhelming that Amazon stopped allowing reviews and even altered the page, which of course resulted in even more fail for EA.

And that is before the class action lawsuits began.

The potential was there, but the simple game play and the protection methods essentially hammered the franchise into obscurity. Spore was positioned to be bigger than the Sims. Which is where some of the features and concepts migrated to after the Spore debacle.

So financially Spore had some "success" but like dreamache said Spore was a major flop.

Would love to see it redeemed though. Awesome concept and it would be good to see Will Wright get another shot at greatness before closure on his gaming legacy.

I just had a fucken brilliant idea:

Sim Google

Test SEO practices and see if it ranks by fast forwarding time.

I'm a genius.

No, spore was a flop in the eyes of those who followed the development of the game for several years. The GDC '07 video showed an entirely different game than what actually was released. That's why the hype was so huge. When I went into Maxis to play the game a few weeks before they released it, it was boring as fuck.

Financially, yeah it was a success, but not a success to the point at which it could have been. I'm sure they made a profit, but like the other dude said, the hype was so huge that many people bought it and then quit playing a couple weeks after.

Thank you both for the clarification.
