Silk Road and Bitcoins - Buy drugs online?

WTT PPUSD 4 BTC

If you're being serious SR links to a Wiki with a bunch of different sites that help handle PP to BTC exchanges, I can send you the link so you don't have to go looking through every page on there. Just shoot me a PM (that's for anyone).

Btw, just saw today on the new silk road forum (they've got rid of the old one and replaced it with crappy insecure SMF) - there was a phishing thing today, where someone changed the silk road link on the hidden wiki to a clone, and was capturing passwords, so if you went on it through that today, change your password, and bookmark the real silk road!

I always remember the first bit of the address; it begins with ian. Type that in, and it should come up with SR as one of the suggestions.

Meanwhile criminals with means continue to launder money through legit cash based businesses while ensuring all of the txns are OFFline. This whole thing continues to scream desparate kids with no financial means doing something "neat"

I agree it's neat, but damn retarded in practice / execution as that heist shows.

Someone should write an ebook on how to actually transcact with btc safely online. You know keeping a machine that contains said .dat file physically unplugged from the net, etc etc etc.

honestly for the time being i like that bitcoins are not user friendly. they will get there but this gives people that arent idiots a chance to get involved still. 6 months from now it will be a completely different world.

They will be, even if not under the same address... ;)

As long as SR takes 'em that's fine by me haha. Anyone else notice a massive spike in the prices over there? I'm seeing a 2-3 bitcoin jump per item. Any ideas why besides the simple and obvious supply and demand theory?

Mainly b/c of one website...

...leading me to...

If they're around in 6 months.

no, because they fill a niche that nothing else does. They can be used for lots of things besides buying drugs and if they are the best solution for those niches their value will grow.

If any of you were using Mt. Gox, your shit has been hacked and I hope you enjoy the massive amounts of spam you'll be getting soon. Also, I hope you didn't use the same password for other sites.

Dear Mt.Gox user,

Our database has been compromised, including your email. We are working on a
quick resolution and to begin with, your password has been disabled as a
security measure (and you will need to reset it to login again on Mt.Gox).

If you were using the same password on Mt.Gox and other places (email, etc),
you should change this password as soon as possible.

For more details, please see this:

https://support.mtgox.com/entries/2...ell-off-due-to-a-compromised-account-rollback

The informations there will be updated as our investigation progresses.

Please accept our apologies for the troubles caused, and be certain we will do
everything we can to keep the funds entrusted with us as secure as possible.

The leaked data includes the following:

- Account number
- Account login
- Email address
- Encrypted password

While the password is encrypted, it is possible to bruteforce most passwords
with time, and it is likely bad people are working on this right now.

Any unauthorized access done to any account you own (email, mtgox, etc) should
be reported to the appropriate authorities in your country.

Thanks,
The Mt.Gox team

No actual hacking yet, they've got the database, but all the passwords are salted md5, so they'd have to be going after individual targets really. A dictionary attack's required, and that would take ages for a moderately decent password. I know someone on bitcoin.org said there's a plaintext version about, but I did some searching and couldn't find it.

Just change your password for mtgox when it comes back on, as well as your password for other things if you reused your mtgox pass, and it should be fine.

Btw, I thought it was meant to come back at 1 AM GMT? It's 1.22 here, and it's still the rollback page.

Mt. Gox md5 hashes cracked - Pastebin.com

I can't see it on reddit? :S The pastebin link you posted only has 552 passwords on it, and that's not user numbers 1-552, comparing it to the md5 database. Looks like it's just the easiest passwords to hack.
