Scientists Reconstruct Brains’ Visions Into Digital Video In Historic Experiment

Here's something from a study done in 1999 with cats I always thought was pretty cool:

The image on the right is what the cat sees, the image on the left is how the cat's brain interprets it, based on the firing pattern of the neurons around its visual cortex. So maybe they think we are just a bunch of giant cats.

Am I the only one that watched the video? It just looks like a bunch of scrambled porn to me

I have doubts about this being used as a means to prosecute people, it just records what people visualize or what people see. If its recording memories, well, I would assume during an interrogation, it would be hard not to visualize yourself in the situation that the police are trying to place you in.

Maybe I'm just being optimistic? If this records your vision as its happening, then the only way to incriminate you would be to have the device on your head recording you as you committed the crime.

you would be contained and recorded while you sleep. the footage would be combed for details of a crime. if you so happen to dream about killing a prez, you will be charged.

if you dont think this will be used for prosecution/persecution, then yes, you are being optimistic/naive

Huh, you're taking it to the other extreme. Maybe said dreams might give investigators clues or pointers to what they should look for where, but I doubt it would hold as evidence by themselves.

This reminds me of the technology in "Vanilla Sky" and "Minority Report". Those movies came out in 2001 and 2002. I don't wanna imagine the type of technology the gov has now.

I understand your point, and almost even agree with it, but I gotta think if the tech developed enough, the gov would use it against us. If the rate of oppression continues on its current path, and considering the insanity that already occurs in the system..it's seems like a 100% chance to me.

You think that if they had a recording of you dreaming about taking out the prez, that wouldn't do anything? They are bringing swat teams for peaceful protests. They try to send to send people to jail for life for recording the police..the threshold of insanity has long been crossed. The progression will undoubtedly continue, but like most things, at an accelerated pace.

I've posted this before and someone else posted it the other day, but I'll link to it again since people seem shocked by this type of discovery :

There's a scifi/alternate reality novel where murder and assault are nonexistent; everyone wears a device that records what they see and continually transmits it to a central library. When any crime happens, the cops just do a search on the data for that date time and location. Basically this vision recording + GPS + image search software. One of those things that it's cool to think about, unless it actually happens.

Oh and can't believe that noone has picked up on the possibility that..

..this will make (physical) tinfoil hats mainstream.

This is another instance of something "impossible" forom William Gibson's book Neuromancer coming to pass. If anyone's read his stuff, you might remember you could buy dreams and play them so you could experience them for yourself. The big hit in one of the books was called Kings of Sleep I think.

Anyway, I've been waiting to hear of this coming true for a few years now, and here it is - scary as hell too, when you realize two things:
1. It's more advanced than what you and I are being told - guaranteed
2. It will (or IS) in the hands of law enforcement/intelligence/governments to be used against whoever they want to use it against.

To make money off it and make people accept it, we'll be able to buy Kings of Sleep (or the equivalent) in a few years though.
