So instead of being found out as a gay man by some 'friends' and family, he decided to kill himself and now most of the western world knows he was a gay man instead. Doesn't compute for me...

Maybe he thought dying would be less painful than letting everybody ridicule him? But he was in college where lots of people experiment. Ok, he was retarded.

Wrong again. A person has died because that person chose to end his life. This does not get simpler.

I don't mean to ride you on this, clyde. But your position ultimately leads to laws that affect my life. It may seem unfathomable right now, but I can envision a society where everyone is legally prohibited from calling another person "faggot."

While I don't refer to people as "faggots," I want the right to do so.

I'm not advocating for the word to be made illegal, I'm just saying that we as human beings should always let our values guide us. I know people clowning on the guy for killing himself but come on now would people really prefer Virginia Tech massacre over this?

I just honestly sympathize for the death and hope that Ravi would at least feel sorry for what he's done. It's not entirely his fault, I know but if his roommate wanted his shit made public he would've sucked the dick in public.

As long as they allow it in spelling bees.

People will ALWAYS find a reason to feel sad for themselves.

I attended a high school in a very Christian Right part of Florida, but we had the gayest kid in existence there - yet he was EXTREMELY popular. I'll never forget Carlos because of how he carried himself. He had the kind of confidence that only comes through years of maturity.

People need to be taught to respect themselves.

Nothing is worth killing yourself over. But this kid may have come from an overly religious family or something. He may have thought that his family life is over now anyway.

Ravi was doing normal college kid shit - which should NOT be his excuse. It's just a sad commentary on kids these days. No respect for anyone's rights.

Nor am I saying you are doing so. But I've been around a long time, and I read a lot of history. I know how laws come about. The process usually begins with a faulty position, and builds steam. The law gets passed, and the majority loses a right based on the presumed infringement of the minority.

I'm just saying that we as human beings should always let our values guide us.

That's dangerous. Your values may be different than mine, whether we're talking about marijuana, prostitution, or murder.

I know people clowning on the guy for killing himself but come on now would people really prefer Virginia Tech massacre over this?

I've lost the plot here. I don't see the connection between the two events.

I just honestly sympathize for the death and hope that Ravi would at least feel sorry for what he's done. It's not entirely his fault, I know but if his roommate wanted his shit made public he would've sucked the dick in public.

For the record, this guy's death saddens me. I have never met a person - homeless, addicted to drugs, etc. - who lacked value. Yet, he felt this was his best option. He was emotional. Emotions make people do stupid things.

About this Ravi character, I hope someone takes him aside and tells him, "Listen, you are not responsible for Tyler's death. But you are an asshole because you posted the video online. Here are your choices: you can either stay an asshole or become a better person. Learn from this."

And with that, I need to unplug and run my business.

So you got caught being gay, why the hell would you kill yourself over that? If anything, that would be your chance to come out of the closet guns blazing like "You're goddamn right I'm gay. If you don't like it mind your own business". Or he could have given this Ravi cunt a black eye. I would have respected those reactions. He chose to pussy out instead. If I faced some big public embarrassment I would just lie low for a few months and make some monies at home until everything blew over, then go out and forget it.

Seriously, those streamed movies could have made him famous in the gay community and he'd have hot bodybuilder dudes calling his phone 24/7 if he embraced the situation. Instead of embracing his life he ended it.

I have a feeling that he comes from a religious Christian background. There's no other reason the shame would be great enough for him to kill himself. Unless he had some other mental problems.

What they guy did was way more than invasion of privacy. Was it murder? No I don't think it was murder, but broadcasting someone having sex with out their consent to the internet is completely fucked up. That guy should be labeled a sex offender. What he did was voyeuristic rape.

lol yeah let's label him as a sex offender when he never engaged in any sexual acts, fucking stupid. Being labeled as a sex offender ruins you for life when it concerns community and job opps.

Why not just call it what it is? A couple college kids making a bad decision fucking around with a roommate. That's all it is. It'd be different if it was some grown man, planting webcams in bathroom stalls or people's apartments. It was his room, his webcam, and made a dick move by turning it on and streaming it.

sex offender, lol.

Jumped off a bridge? Way to overreact.

Any other guy would beat the shit out of his roommate till he begged for mercy.

not everyone's machoism is like yours tuff guy... remember, he was gay...probably didn't know how to fight...per say.

most kids these days would not post that ALL over the internet. you're roommate? you're friend? if i caught my friend in that act with another guy i certainly would not FUCK UP his LIFE and spread the fucking news to the entire student body. that would really FUCK him up.

Ravi was being naive, ignorant, selfish and not thinking of the after affects of how this can really fuck someone up. dude needs to be punished and serve 5 yrs in prison for it. that was fucked up

this whole saga is fully of immature people acting immaturely. Noone is in the right. Getting outed as being gay would be embarrasing and this is pretty much the worst way possible, but killing yourself over it as dumb as hell. Noone cares anymore.

As for the other people, it clearly is an invasion of privacy but they were being dumb college students. They probably never really thought about what they were doing.

It's not and that's not what he is being charged for.

He is being charged for invasion of privacy.

Nothing prevents him from turning on his webcam whenever he wants BUT his right to do so can't infringe upon somebody else's right for privacy.

He should have no expectation of privacy in a shared residence. It wasn't his residence, he shared it with someone else. It sounds like a dorm room, where there are no "private" bedrooms, just one big shared room, ie no privacy. If my wife sets up a camera in our home, unknown to me, and catches me screwing the neighbor I can't press charges for invasion of privacy because there is no reasonable expectation of privacy when she lives with me.

I guess he should have thought about that before he did what he did.

Why not just call it what it is? A couple college kids making a bad decision fucking around with a roommate.

He did it with the intention of broadcasting his roommate's sexual activities on the internet with out his roommates consent. That is a sexual offense against his roommate.

It'd be different if it was some grown man, planting webcams in bathroom stalls or people's apartments. It was his room, his webcam, and made a dick move by turning it on and streaming it.
sex offender, lol.

I might be wrong on the layout of their dorm, but if it's any thing like the ones I've been in / seen it's basically 1 room with 2 beds in it. In that case it wasn't his room. It was their room. What he did was no different that a someone installing a camera inside someone else apartment or a roommates bedroom.

crackp0t, you use words without the proper definitions. What is "voyeuristic rape?" No offense to you personally, but it sounds like a phrase used by dumb people because they hear it on the news, and the words sound nice and seem inflammatory. "Rape" involves physical assault. I have not seen such an assault reported here. Even in cases where spectators watch a gang rape, there is no assault on the part of the spectators. The phrase is without value.

You said the roommate is a "sex offender." According to whom? You? From where did you pull this definition? For reference, here is what Wikipedia says:

A sex offender (also sexual offender, sex abuser or sexual abuser) is a person who has committed a sex crime. What constitutes a sex crime differs by culture and by legal jurisdiction, but offenses usually include child sexual abuse, downloading child pornography, rape, and statutory rape.
Definitions are neglected in debate by those who are mentally lazy. All that is left is emotion.
