So the last few weeks I've been doing big scrapebox/xrumer comment blasts to random blogs, basically just trying to find some more autoapprove ones. The comments I use are pretty generic, but the idea is to try and get people to approve them even if they hit moderation.

Without giving away my comments they are usually something like "your site doesn't work on the iphone" "I just added you to my blogroll, come visit my site and see what you think" etc etc.

Anyways I just went onto the site and there is tons of comments from these idiots asking questions. Thought I'd share a few of them:

"as far as I can see you do not have a blogroll so why are you telling me that you put my site on your blogroll?"

"Hi guys, you have a lovely site. I tried one of your emails out as one of you suggested to inverview me but it is a none existing email, or so it seems. Thank you for visiting my site and leaving all those nice comments, however, to leave about 60 comments on my site is a little bit to much don’t you think? If you guys want to exchange links that is fine with me. Make a referral to my site on your blogroll and I will do the same on <site removed> ok
Thanks."

"Hi <name removed>, First of all thank you for visiting my website and leaving a comment. After seeing a comment there I decided to follow you to your website."

"Thank you for all your comments on my site. But can you please stop posting them!!! I cannot find the image you are talking about"


One chick has left over 120 manual comments pleading with me to stop posting to her site as she doesn't know how to remove comments from appearing.


Just did a quick check and it looks like about 2,000 links have been manually approved. Some people sure are stupid.
 


I too have seen many times that some blog mods are seriously replying to spam comments :)
 
And don't you love the ones that take it personally, citing W3 and geneva convention rules at you for "Breaking the law" when you leave automated comments?

I had a guy reply back to two different sites of mine, about 4 months apart, with a LONG ass letter that you could tell was crafted just for me both times... Both were longer than the friggin' blog posts he'd originally written... Dude must have thought he was batman o' the web...
 
best comment I've found that works like a charm 80% of the time is:

"hey man, site isn't loading for me..."

short and sweet works every time.
 
On one blog I posted
"Very interesting. But could you elaborate a little? Because I would like to include this information on my Ph.D thesis"
I happened to visit that page after a few days and found that the writer replied me posting a big elaboration with citations from wikipedia, etc.
 
Unless it was relevant to the post I would always just trash them. Over the past few months though was getting hit by the Russian/Ukraine spam where each comment was full of 100s of viagra links & the likes. Thought fuck it and removed the ability to comment across any of the blogs.

Personally, I think blog commenting has to be done manually these days. Otherwise you could be dumping a link on abused pages and more people are getting increasingly pissed and are reporting to Google, your host, spam sites etc. It is pretty obvious that dealing with spam is a major priority for Google at the moment, so gotta hustle smarter for those links.

I went back and looked for it, I really did... Slipped right through my fingers, sorry. :blush:

Next one will get it's own thread and I'll even post his blog's url to let others here have fun with. ;)
 
Some of the consulting I do involves teaching offline business owners about blogging. They're always really excited when they get their first comments along the lines of

"Hey! Great post! I will be subscribing to your blog."

I try to let them down gently.
