Recommend an antivirus program?

So it's looking like Kapersky for paid, and MSE for free. I'm going to look into these options, thanks!
Had Nod32, it let in a virus
Had AVG, it let in a virus
Have had Kaspersky for 2-3 years, and never a virus
I know others who have had viruses while having up-to-date A/V. I got them to move to Kaspersky and I don't think they've had a virus since
(btw, I got viruses from browser exploits, not from being an idiot and opening attachments, etc)

This, I'm convinced that part of the reason Linux is faster / more responsive than Windows on my machine is that there's no AV slowing it down.

The bottom line really comes down to you can run massive tests and no antivirus is going to be perfect every time. I use MSE because its as good as the rest, free and uses minimal resources (which is important to me) Some antivirus can double or triple your windows start up time for example.
