Associated Press: "Police have released a videotape of a June police cruiser crash that killed two Connecticut teens. The officer was driving 94 miles per hour and was not on an emergency call. He's been charged with manslaughter. (Nov. 18)" :crap:

Conn Post:

"It's all my fault.

Motorists make this your mantra. Do it with feeling. And take this oath: "If a police cruiser comes barrelling down the Boston Post Road at me like a bat out of hell -- no sirens blaring, no strobe lights spinning -- at 94 miles per hour as I am making my turn and I am killed, it is because of me. I didn't get out of ITS way. I am to blame."
That's what mere mortal motorists like us learn from the State Police Major Crime Squad's just-released four-month-long investigation into how Milford Police Officer Jason Anderson slammed his cruiser into Ashlie Krakowski and David Servin's car. Wham. Bam. Now, you're dead. .............continued................"

Sad story. :(

Interesting...in that video it would appear the cop car had the right away assuming it was a green light and the teens would have to yield to the oncoming straight ahead traffic..now obviously 94 mph is surely over the speed limit...damn i should have been a lawyer i love figuring out this kind of stuff

no sirens, and the cops were racing.

both cops should be fired. The driver should be jailed.

Yeah....it wasn't a green light....it was blinking yellow.....

At least it was blinking something....I can't tell the color, but at the very least the cop fucked up on multiple levels.

This wasn't to get the cop apologizers all riled up either.....just thought it was interesting. We need 'em and most of them are A-OK. :) At the very least, they are a necessary evil. :)

(note: it's "right-of-way" not right away)

I see cops doing illegal shit all day - from speeding w/ no lights, no wipers in rain, running lights, cell phone while driving, etc - I'm starting to think they brake more laws than they are supposed to enforce. The fucking worst is when they are on traffic duty and fuck up the flow of traffic because everyone is braking.

RIP teens.

There's something on my to do list I keep forgetting about, having a recorder in my car that I can easily activate if I get pulled over. I've seen a few cases where it tilted the law towards the citizen side.

'Our' word is worth a wad of shit next to a gutter on a rainy day.

If he's just doing his job and doing it right, then no fuss. It seems to me like the people who gravitate towards police jobs have an urge to control and think they are the law.

@Unripe yeah upon second glance you are right it was blinking...which still means if it was blinking yellow then the teen car still needed to yield to the oncoming straight ahead traffic...i'm not saying the cop didn't fuck up as he clearly did but that should weigh some into the ruling on this case

You're right, I don't think the teens yielded at all and the cop had his headlights on so the driver knew he was there.

Didn't see this.

Sad story all around..... I even feel bad for the officer.

I am spelling what wrong?

FYI - the image is not by me.

This is a bad mix of inexperience and negligence. From the victims' point of view, if you have been driving for a while, you may not have have attempted the turn but under normal circumstances with oncoming traffic that far away from the intersection, the turn probably could have been safely made.

The key here is that the police car was coming at them so fast that by the time they were able to judge its speed, it was way too late to do anything. An experienced driver has probably had a few come at them that fast so they would have some idea what it looks like.

Most police and other emergency responders have had some sort of training by the time they get in a vehicle so that they can roll through city streets that fast, although training means shit if you don't have lights and sirens. You'll see a lot of them, especially in smaller towns, go 60 in a 35mph zone without lights and sirens because they drive those streets every day and are overly familiar with the area. Looks like the cop took that shit for granted, which is how most accidents happen. Just like most crashes occur near the home.

The cop should have his lights and sirens on if he is going that fast, there's no excuse not to. Just because he has a badge doesn't mean he don't have rules to follow as well.

In my opinion, the cop should be charged to the fullest extent of the law as you know if it was one of us, we would be sitting in prison for a very long time. There's no doubts that the manslaughter charge is what he deserves.

He deserves jail time for life. Just because he is a cop doesn't mean he doesn't need to follow laws like the rest of the population

Don't rape me for saying this, but: A couple of things- people acting like the cop is a piece of shit are idiots for the most part because you guys all know damn well that you would do some stupid shit sometimes if you were a cop, knowing you wouldn't get pulled over. A lot of you guys probably do or have even done some shit like that and you're not cops. I know I have.

Second, as a teenager, I would have beat my own ass for saying this, but I don't think teen's should be able to drive without a mature adult until they're like 20. The cop is 100% wrong in this situation, but they still could have avoided the whole situation if they would have judged the oncoming traffic a little better prior to, or at least during, the turn. Even if the cop that didn't hit them was the only one coming, they still should have waited for it to be more clear to turn. The car moved through the turn like an old grandma was driving it. It's still the cop's fault in the end, but there was more than one bad decision involved that lead to the crash.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone was paying any attention in either car because it looks like no one even tried to avoid the accident and the view for both drivers was wide open, so if looking, they should have seen one another's actions much sooner than the impact.
