I'm going to take some time off and just focus on programming. Ruby, Flask, Node... haven't decided yet. Just keep on increasing my abilities until I can actually build something worthy of being built. 6 - 12 months of learning a new language is infinitely more valuable than chasing the few grand I could make from WP.
To make a long story short, I've been a fuck-up for the past few years.
My intellect, happiness, and motivation has withered away while pursuing a degree that I do not give one shit about.
Right now, I am setting myself up for a life of mediocrity. I cannot let this happen.
Inspired by SkyFire's journal, I've made it my goal to achieve $100,000 within the next three months.
Here's the game plan:
I've got some programming experience in Python. Simple web scrapers, tic-tac-toe games, "hello world", etc. It's time to expand on my programming knowledge and learn PHP.
Why PHP? Wordpress plugins - the infrastructure, market, and documentation are already there for me to work with.
By the end of this month, my first plugin will be finished. In December, I market it. If it's a hit, I continue to improve it and sell it. If not, I move on to the next plugin.
Wish me luck.
ITT: OP is loser
OP here's a formula for making $100K with a wordpress plugin:
1. Make traffic trading plugin for wordpress blogs
2. Get niggas & bitches to install your widget into their sidebar and traffic trade with other blog owners (who doesn't want more traffic?)
3. Wait until it reaches xxx,xxx clicks traded daily
4. ????
5. Redirect all clicks to flogs and make $100k in a day
6. Get outted by Michael Arrington on TechCrunch
7. Do it on Tumblr rinse & repeat
I am going to make a thread about you soon, about my appreciation for your posts. I'm currently sober and plan to be all day, so maybe tomorrow.
You've been a fuckup the past few years and you expect to all of a sudden flip a switch and make $100k in 3 months?
I believe in setting small, realistic goals. Focus on hitting your first $1k, then, $5k, then $10k, etc. Achieving small goals builds momentum and keeps you motivated.
