Pulled a muscle in my backFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUU-

"This medicine may also cause serious effects on the stomach or intestines, including bleeding or perforation (forming of a hole). These conditions can be fatal and can occur without warning while you are taking ibuprofen, especially in older adults."

"Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase your risk of stomach bleeding."

Ibuprofen Information from Drugs.com

Tylenol and alcohol is bad for the liver, ibuprofen in general is not good for gastrointestinal. It's ok once in a while but taking daily is bad.

ok... so basic research started after I took the pills and had 2 beers in me and it was poor. Pure confirmation bias at work. Good looking out.

The combination of alcohol and ibuprofen can cause stomach ulcers and intestinal bleeding, etc. Be careful with that.

I didn't read anything else.

and props to you for calling this out first while I was in "yeah whatever... its cool" mode. -> confirmation bias

You are pretty much fucked, at least for a week or so. Go for the vidocin now and get your ass to the nearest hospital asap.

I had a similar problem and only got through with intravenous pain killers. I dunno what the fuck they gave me at the hospital, prob morphine, but it felt good but most important stopped the pain.

I took the maximum dosage of ibuprofen and am drinking beer for the pain.

Haven't read the rest of the thread but I'm sure you're getting all the medical advise you would never need from a bunch of web dudes with no medical licence. So here's one more:

Don't ever drink and take alot of ibuprofen. For the love of YOU'RE LIVERRRRRRRRRRRRR.

edit: oops yeah mixed up Acetaminophen side effects with ibuprofen. Carry on. Unless you have internal bleeding. but I figure you got worse problems then.

edit2: As a person whose suffered multiple back injuries (and just had a mini one this weekend) ice no more than 20 mins at a time, first 48 hours. Heat following that (20 min rule still applies). Before practice you should heat your back and always ice afterwards to stay injury free.

the thing is, why waste my time or money going to a hospital or doctor? All they are going to do is give me pain medicine/anti-inflammatory shit/muscle relaxers. I have all that shit. I don't really think there's anything a professional can do for me at this point.

I'm buzzed enough right now that its uncomfortable but it doesn't feel like a knife anymore. No more pills for me tonight. I'm sticking to brown ale and Fireman 4.

You seem to be too wasted today to make a rational decision.

My rule of thumb with pain: if it starts messing with my brain, I don't give a fuck, my ass goes straight to the nearest hospital.

Jesus fucking Christ. I'm not having an appendicitis. Its a pulled muscle. It just happens to be the most painful one I could have possibly injured.

Lot of pussies in this thread, taking some ibuprofen and beer probably won't do shit. They have to put that stuff on there for the really pussy people. If your in general good health, you probably got fuck all to actually worry about.

I had an accident on my sportbike ( going around a corner and the road turned to gravel ) that had me in rehab for 6 months.

The pain was not fun, I had to go see a specialist, the best was the electrodes they would place on your back to make your muscles contract, at such a low level it's like a nice massage.

I would not self medicate though bro. You really should get it checked out.

i don't know if anyone has already said this but don't drink beer after taking ibuprofen

Alcohol + ibuprofen is pretty safe as it doesn't cause any interactions and ibuprofen doesn't cause any major internal organ vulnerabilities that I've read about.

This is patently false - NSAIDs like ibuprofen can cause significant ulceration of the stomach and duodenum; having said that, it's not likely to happen in a single day.

I'm a pharmacy student AND I tore both my left trapezius and either lower lat or erector spinae on two separate occasions in 2011. If it's a serious tear ibuprofen won't even chip the paint off of pain of that significance; you'll need something with a bit more octane... tylenol 3 at a minimum, maybe Percocet/Percodan or something stronger.

Having said that, I didn't take a single pain killer for the total of 10 weeks of both injuries as I have a fearful respect of the power of opioids. If you've got a lot of will power and can avoid abuse/addiction, go for it. Otherwise, man up!

Edit: one other thing I forgot to mention - with my lower back injury, about a week after the initial tear I started having back spasms that basically feel like you're getting tasered. One happened in the shower and threw me into the wall so hard it nearly knocked me out. Watch out for those bad boys

If you are so inclined - given that this reoccurs. I would get a copy of Shirley Sarhamans Movement Impairment Syndromes and look through the chapter on the lumbar spine.

Or you could go see a physiotherapist who should know such things anyway.

er no, first hand knowledge here that it will indeed fuck you up, and it doesn't take a whole lot

I had a prolapsed disc last year from lifting my wifes luggage out of the car when we got home. I just yanked it and spun my back, pop. For 4 weeks i put up with the horrendous pain living on Diclofenac and Co-Codamols. Was 3 months before it got better and i still feel some occasional back pain now.

Fortunately i'm in the UK and also have extra private insurance so don't have to worry about the costs!

I'd be straight to the docs if i was you.
