Is it worth it to pay extra to make sure that your information is kept private when you register a domain? I'm trying to decide if I should pay more to have this feature since I plan on registering a few domains.

Less Spam mails you will receive if your mailing info is Hidden in Whois otherwise i do not see any reason why it should not be revealed.

I use private WHOIS on most of my domains and sites for various reasons. I place a premium on privacy and the extra expense is worth it to me.

I get WhoisGuard free when I register domains with NameCheap; otherwise, I wouldn't bother with it.

I private projects I deem to be "crappy" (as in the site sucks and I'm embarrassed by it!) OR if it was free with registration...

yeah, if you're buying domains individually and want privacy I'd say you should go to NameCheap, as the whoisguard is free. When purchasing 5 domains or more, I just get the free whois privacy w/ godaddy.

Yea I was looking at Godaddy for that reason. I'd rather my name and address not appear yet, especially since this is my first time.

Fuck GoDaddy. Those little bitches will cave and yank your domains if anyone bitches about them. Go with Moniker. If you buy a lot of domains, you can ask your account manager for a better rate. I get all mine for about $0.25 over their cost, plus Moniker won't fuck you over if someone complains.

Even if you buy your domains for their full rate of $10.99 for .com's, you're still going to have more protection than Go-fuckyourself-Daddy.

Sorry for the tirade. I have strong feelings about GD.

Have they pulled your domains because of a complaint before? I didn't think that a domain registering company could actually do this unless something really serious happened....like a lawsuit. Are there any posts and things you can direct me to so that I can read more about this? I tried googling it but I'm not getting anything worthwhile.

One article by a well respected member here:

Why Go Daddy Sucks - Oooff.com

BTW, no it's never happened to me. I actually hate GoDaddy for entirely different reasons. But you were asking about registering a domain with them.

Thanks. I had to weigh my options on the matter, and I ended up going with godaddy even with the negativity I've read about. It was purely for the cost though and since I registered in bulk I got the free privacy too. Basically I'm going to expect the worst and hope for the best in this situation.
