His folks were white with tiny specks of black, and brown and white. But this guy is a serious beauty.
People are always stopping and commenting because he's all white, but when they realise he has blue eyes, they go nuts. It's pretty close to a wolf.
How are whippets? I've never actually seen one in person, they're definitely not the typical dog. Do they have good dispositions? Friendly or aggressive? Constant barkers or quiet/tame?
One of my friends had a whippet when I was a kid. He didn't bark, was very very high energy, and was fast as hell. It could jump over a 4-5 ft fence with ease. Friendly but very active, always looking for funtimes.
They are pretty hard to find. I had to fly him here from tennessee. Couldn't find one within 400miles.
They are not high energy at all. Very similar to a greyhound. They can burst but spend most their time sleeping. A real "couch potato". They can however jump VERY high. I would say about 5 feet right now and he's still a puppy. He can also climb chain link fence, when he doesn't feel like simply jumping over it.. lol.
Very very friendly. He lays on my lap as much as I let him. He's normally really quiet but sometimes he'll bark at the cat. He runs fast as hell. Almost as fast as my full grown greys.
Very smart. He knows sit, stay, walk, treat, come, ect already. Ive had him maybe 2 months.
I love those fucking dogs.
I don't have them now because the wife is afraid of big dogs, but I grew up with them all my life, and they are seriously one of the best breeds of dogs I've ever been around.
Only bad thing about them was there aggression with other animals, especially "wild" animals. The fucking dogs would break their chain, crash a fence, or do whatever they had to do to get at whatever they saw, but they were good as gold with kids.
They were actually bred originally to protect the emperor and his children from what I understand.
Yeah they are loyal as ever. If you're gonna get in the way of one of these, you'd better be able to kill it, because they don't stop for anything.
A lot of how they turn out is in how they're raised. You gotta excercise them like crazy, and socialise them when they're younger. They're real smart so they get bored if you don't work them out.
And they get BIG so you can't really keep them in smaller spaces. And yeah you're right, the Akita Inu's were originally bred to protect ancient royals. They've a long history.
