It was founded in Corpus Christi, Texas. I'd wager you were in the South. It used to be you could only find Dr. Pepper in Texas, too since it originated in Waco, I think.
I had Whataburger and a Dt. Dr. Pepper for lunch today as a matter of fact.

I make them myself, but usually crush a couple smarties and dip the apples in smarties coating.
Don't have them every day though, I usually don't have any snacks.
