The first one that comes to mind for me is Carl Sagan, his ways of explaining and popularizing science for the masses is beyond anyone else, he hosted the most popular science program ever broadcast(Cosmos) and wrote several dozen books, most of which I read - I simply can't put it into words how glad I am for this man to have existed.
I posted this before, but if you haven't watched it before it's well worth it, one of the most ego depleting and humbling video on youtube. A taste of the poetry that Dr. Sagan put in his books.
