So I was doing pretty well bidding on the brand name and brand name combo, and 1-off variations, then I got the 'cease and desist' letter and had to pull it all down. Conversions on non-branded terms are far and few between....
Rant: First off, it pisses me off at how stupid marketing directors are. They'd rather have 1 of their ads and 9 competitor ads showing than allow affiliates to bid on brand terms. Better off to have all 10 spots, even if 9 are affiliate becuase, in the end, it's better to make the sale through an affiliate than not make the sale at all. This leads to their mistaken belief that affiliates bidding on brand terms are 'stealing' sales. Hello! Asswipe! If they were going to buy from you they would have clicked on the number 1 ad in the first place.....
OK, now I feel better.
Anyway, my question is for anyone who has experimented with geo-targeting. Did it work for you? How well? I want to put all the brand name bids back up but filter the state their HQ is located in (they seem to have only one location), so when they type in their brand name on teh SEs my ad won't show.
My concern is that the my affiliate program manager was pretty torqued at my bidding on brand names in violation of the offer's terms. If I get caught again, I might be booted out of the network, and it's a good network....
Whaddya think?
