Medical costs are up the fucking wazoo in USA.

If you're uninsured living in USA and are smart/lucky to have savings, good luck to you. Entering an emergency room without insurance is like a lamb entering the slaughterhouse.

Obama is tryin (going) to fix that. Just wait

Yeah by making sure that you'll have to pay 60% tax's like in Canada... The money has to come from somewhere, he and everyone else can keep living in their fantasy world that you don't have to worry about it and keep giving health insurance away for free or highly subsidizing it. But sooner or later the costs are going to need to get paid.

That's not true! Why are you spreading around these lies? These kind of conspiracy theories are dangerous, and anti America

Edit: please have some patience. Obama is doing everything he can to fix this mess.

lol typical american thinking, throw money at the problem. taxing the rich doesn't change a thing, just look at how that's working out for france. asians and europeans spend less on healthcare and have way more practical working systems set in place. you don't need more money, you just need to organize your shit.

Yeah shit is expensive here. Obamacare fucked up my insurance so I've been uninsured for a few weeks. They also don't let you get new coverage if you're currently taking any medication (which I am) so it's impossible to get insured now. Just been hoping I don't get in any accidents.

Taxes are higher in Canada, but not because of health care.

Careful your American is showing.

He means they're so stupidly high and citizens get nothing out of it. As someone living in Vancouver, I concur.

The government created this problem. Laws favoring non-profit hospitals were pushed through, which eliminated most for profit hospitals. To maintain the semblance of non-profitability, these hospitals use their emergency rooms to book fake losses.

They charge outrageous prices knowing full well that they'll only get a fraction of those charges. This allows them to book a loss and maintain the veneer of a non-profit hospital. Of course, most people are unaware that the hospitals get a large portion of those fake losses back each year from the government. I believe it's called uncompensated care rebates.

If you can, avoid going to an emergency room. Urgent care centers can take care of a lot of the same injuries, including lacerations, at a much lower price.

Check out this urgent care center in Hollywood. Their prices are reasonable:

This guy runs a surgery center that doesn't accept insurance and the rates are unbelievably low. Here's his blog:

Taxes aside, the French medical system is widely regarded as one of the best in the world. Considering how fucked up the rest of the country is, Spain's medical system is also highly regarded. I had a hernia operation a year ago, and the hospital and staff were top notch.

See above.

I worked with a guy who got stabbed in the thigh while cutting cookie dough. His knife slipped, fell to the floor, and bounced back into his thigh. He called his doctor but the price was too high. I think $100. So, he grabbed his wife's sewing kit, Anbesol, and some whiskey. Problem solved!

i agree. but more taxes =/= positive outcome. i bet you didn't pay half as much as you would in america. somehow this form of socialism works well in europe as its justified for things like healthcare, it just sucks when people abuse it for everything else.
