If I have a P202 installation and I want to protect my traffic source is it enough to just have ssl and put https:// at the start of the tracking link? Does this completely blank headers or do I also need to use the P202 cloaking feature?

The reason I ask is that I have been using the cloaking feature on its own, but don't like the message that comes up during the redirect (something about if it being stuck to click here). Also is there a way to have these messages removed?

Thanks guys here's some titty payment

Check out /tracking202/redirect/cl2.php to get rid of the "stuck here" message. I also added title tags so it doesn't look so shitty and shady while redirecting.

You should be good enough with the P202 cloaker. If a network really wants to find your traffic source or LP, its not that hard whether you're cloaked or not.

Cheers for that.

And what about SSL on the tracking link? Is this not just as effective/more?

Just a personal preference I guess. If the redirect is slow, it looks pretty sloppy.

Well all those redirects make it slow anywayz. Traffic source tracking -> affiliate tracking -> meta refresh -> network tracking -> (another network tracking w/ brokered offers) -> advertiser :(

Someone must know the answer to this as it is such a basic fundamental question. Does SSL block all referrers or not? and is there any need for extra cloaking other than just SSL?

I'm pretty sure ssl blocks all referrers but the encryption makes the redirect slower and it might make some IE users popup with that "are you sure you want to continue to secured page bla bla" message.

Many thanks for that Arny, great answer. How often does that IE pop-up happen, I must admit I haven't seen it, but don't really use IE much either. Is it a default setting?

Yea I don't use IE much too but it does show up when I try to go from a unsecured to a ssl page (or vise versa i think?) So you should only really use ssl for pixels. (Just add https:// when entering the link)

If your that concerned about cloaking outsource some coder to add a script that checks if the referrer is blank and then lets the redirect continue. But I'm pretty sure prospers cloaking is good enough as it can only show your tracker domain.

So SSL is slower to load than a P202 cloak? I thought the opposite (by a long way).

I am very surprised about that pop-up thing as I have seen quite a few people recommend using SSL with prosper cloaking. Which makes me even more confused, if SSL does clear the referrers then why use prosper cloaking with it at all? Surely it will still have the same pop-up issue Arny mentioned, and also you are slowing down the redirect by another layer.
