Why didn't they extract him and put him on trial? Or at least torture him for information in some secret prison? Wouldn't that be more valuable in the long run?

If all US personnel made it out alive, it means things weren't "too hot" + good planning. So it was possible to capture him instead of killing him and taking his body along for the ride back.
