I'm looking for a good set of earphones. I had a cheapo pair of Sony MDR-EX55s that were leaps and bounds better than the iPod buds, and I'm looking for something better. I'm willing to spend around $100 on a set. I want to get a set of Klipsch Image S4s, but they seem to be out of stock everywhere. Any recommendations?

If you want a good pair of studio monitor headphones in the $100 range look no further than the Sony MDR-7506. Nice clean sound. Well regarded in the movie and sound industry. Only downside is the el cheapo vinyl ear covers but you can get suede replacements from Behringer.

They are an industry standard. Seriously.

Yea those are nice, but I'm looking for some ear buds instead of head phones for portability, etc.

Well that's two endorsements for the same product. Just go buy the fuckers.

edit: the way to wear them is with the cable turned in slightly on either side of your head and fed up over the ears then the toggle cinched up under your chin. They're still comfortable this way and WILL NOT move jogging, working out, etc.

I personally use the Shure e3's if you are looking for "earbud" style headphones. They are amazing and cut out 100% of external sounds, almost to a dangerous level if you are someone who likes to run or walks around the city a lot lol.

If you are taking suggestions for full-sized headphones, rather than just ear-buds. I would say Sennheiser HD595's. They are open-port audiophile quality headphones that have worked wonders for me as a DJ/producer.

Wow ... $200 for ear buds, that's sick.

Is it made in China/Thailand/Taiwan by any chance?

Shure do a lot of manufacturing in Mexico, some in the US, some in Canada. In fact, it's a tell tale sign that their microphones are counterfeit if they are made in China.

What does it matter where they are made? The engineering behind them is solid. They're designed by a company the specializes in audio production and have a 2 year warranty.

They sound fantastic and get rave reviews. $200 isn't a lot of money for something that is going to perform well and that should last for years.

Note: this company does custom molded ear cups for most of the Shure lineup... All Ear plug types - Earplugs, from Enhanced Listening

Another vote for shure, my shure buds are amazing.

skullcandy blows, i foolishly bought them once before I was making any money with AM and they broke after a month.

Just got my Shure SE210's and they're fucking badass, thanks guys for the great recommendation.

Skullcandy is good if you recognize that they will break in a few months. Cheap though, and while they last they are high quality.
