Today is a big day for me. Today I handed in my resignation letter to my current employer. In two weeks I'm out of this place. I do have another job lined up. It starts in mid March. It's a friking good job in a Marketing department of a nice stable company. 90K comp package, benefits, the whole shebang... But I don't want that job. I'm fedup with the corporate bullshit. I'm so sick of reporting to stupid bosses, it makes me want to scream. I can't stand walking out of a subway and watching the corporate heard crawl into their offices only to come out at 12 for feeding time. I've grown to hate it with a passion.

So this is my chance. Between the start date of my new gig and the end of this job, I'm throwing myself into affiliate marketing fulltime. My goal is not to start the new job in mid March. If I can earn $300 - $400 a day beginning March, I will walk away from this new position.

The problem is, I'm a n00b. Here my stats to date:

Time doing AM: 1.5 months part time
Commissions Earned: $428
Money Spent: $950
Number of campaigns tested: 5
Number of Campaigs profitabe: 0
Level of dedication: High
Level of knowledge: Average n00b
Level of Technical expertise: Huh???

Things I have going against me: hmmm lots... time, budget, not knowing any html...

Things I have going for me: Affiliate manager who is willing to babysit me even though i make fuck all + Marketing education and experience (none of it is Online btw)

So that's 5 weeks of full time aff marketing with the goal of escaping corporate world. I will succeed or max out my credit cards trying.

Good luck man wish you the best.

If your dedication is high then you will succeed. Look at spending money as investment in your education. Cost of Grad school 60k... cost of testing a few campaigns before you finding something that works >1k

So your post looks like you're telling a story. Are you asking a question or just making a bold statement like an affirmation to yourself?

One thing I see that will hurt you is the technical part. Successful AMs on here share a common thread that being able to design or script and in some cases, both. I can script but I absolutely blow as a designer so my advice in that area is start learning the basics. If you know how to install scripts (P202, WP, etc) you should be OK with that but what happens when you buy an LP from a designer and the offer gets pulled? Will you know how to do some rudimentary editing of the LP to make changes?

These are just a few points to consider.

sounds like you're at least playing it smart. having the 90k backup job starting in a month is a great idea. a lot of dudes just quit their jobs and try to do aff marketing... they finally realize they can't do it when their car is being repossessed.

i share your sentiments on the corporate world and i also had a good salary gig in advertising before i started. your stats look very similar to my first month but i think i spent $3000 and made $2000 for a loss of $1000. that shit is normal. i weathered the storm and well, let's just say it was worth it.

  • Be sure you try google, yahoo and msn ppc
  • Use coupons when you sign up if you can find them
  • for a real trial by fire jump into hot, competitive markets
  • Be SURE you're tracking your campaigns with prosper202.com or similar
  • Be sure you're split testing all the time (landing pages, offers AND networks)
  • Set aside 12-18 hours a day for aff marketing
  • Use your affiliate manager(s) for all you can (info, payouts, hints, tips, etc.)
  • Try to get on weekly payments (prolly min. $1000 a week sales)
  • Reinvest every cent you make until you cannot possibly spend all the money per week / month.
  • If you have a question use the WickedFire search feature, the answer is probably on here somewhere
let's see whatcha got.

Good luck. I remember seeing one of your posts where you could not make out whether your traffic was from Google or Facebook - make sure you set up some tracking mechanism for your campaigns.

As for design, you can outsource it. But it is always helpful to know at least a little bit of HTML/CSS & PHP.

You are going to lose momentum once you join the new job. So make sure you have a realistic plan to work part-time.

Everything will depend on how you feel about it all during the SECOND month. By that time, if your enthusiasm hasn't fizzled out, you have a great chance of making it.

haha, barman be nice. I know him personally and he's connected to russian mafia, they will hunt you down and vodkaboard you!

Unless you agree to have a vodkaboard party at next years ASW, I will not send another click to your network. (J/K, you rock!)

Fuck it, I'll build a vodkaboard myself... Fucking WIN! (Tonight's productivity s gonna be WAAAAY down after this one!)

So far I would say almost 10% of guys I talk to are Russian, including me!

However, 50% of black hats I talk to seem to be Russian... go figure.

I quit my job and I was only making 100 bucks a month from AdSense... Just sell off everything you own and live like you did back in college on PB and J and spend 18 hours a day for a month straight and you will get there.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement. If you got any tips and strategies (other than what's been posted here) keep them coming.

Buddy, this would be such a waste of precious liquid! And for him it would be like re-living ASW... I've heard that soldering Iron method works well. For those of you not familiar with it.... You insert the soldering iron into person's ass and then plug the device into the power outlet.

If all else fails, write an eBook about the most basic aspect of making money online you can think of, give it a very alluring title, charge $2k for it, get all the big bloggers to push it for you with an affiliate link, then bank it HARD!

gluck bro, i wanna see u succeed. it'll give me some more motivation to pull the trigger from my corporate hellhole as well! keep us updated and let us know how u make out. may the force be wit u!

Good luck and all, but have you broken down your goal into smaller, manageable steps? Thats a pretty long way to go from were you are now in 4 weeks. Its certainly doable, set aside $5000-$10000 for testing campaigns all through Feb and launch 5 campaigns a day and with a little help you'll get there.
Realistically, you've only done 5 campaigns in the last 6 weeks. You'll need to be doing many times that to reach your goal. Also, be prepared to meet failure after failure and be prepared for the possibility that 3 weeks from now you'll be a couple of thousands dollars down. Handling those make or break moments can determine your success.
