A friend of mine emigrated from England to Zimbabwe in the 80's shortly after it had reverted to black rule under Robert Mugabe. After years of white rule, the Zimbabwe Dollar was roughly equal in value to the US Dollar and Neale (my buddy) was earning about $1000 per month.
As a batchelor sharing digs with another batchelor, they couldn't spend that much money! Fillet steak for supper every night, the best hifi's, the latest cloths, they lived like kings!
Before long, the black government starting cocking things up and Neale (who had gotten married) moved South to South Africa with about R24 in his pocket because he wasn't allowed to take any money out of the country, and stared again.
In the meanwhile, Zimbabwe continued to deteriorate as the black government (still under the "deomcratically elected" president Robert Mugabe more than 30 years after independance) continued to make contoversial descissions such as forcing white farmers off their farms, nationalising the mines etc. I can't write it all here - just Google for more facts.
So while my buddy used to be able to live like a king on one thousand dollars per month, today the Zim dollar has depreciated so much that they have knocked 12 zeros of the currency, and still have money like this!
For the true value - add 12 zeros to one hundred trillion ($100 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 - I don't even know what that number is!) will buy you one US$ where they were pretty much equal not so long ago.
And what can you buy for One hundred trillion dollars? Well, the hundred trillion note has recently replaced the old hundred billion note which was in use a year ago...
So why am I telling you all this? It's because a fucktard by the name of Julius Malema (again, just Google for more info on this walking abortion) who is the president of the ANC youth legue (the ANC is the party that runs South Africa) recently came back from a trip to Zimbabwe saying how wonderful it was that Zimbabwe had chased the whites of their farms, nationalised the mines etc and that he wants the same thing to happen in South Africa.
And that is just part of the reason why whites in South Africa are so nervouse and leaving in their thousands. I've been proudly South African all my life, but suddenly I'm looking at alternatives and making sure I've got plans in place to escape before the shit really hits the fan!
To all the Americans, Brits, Australians and everybody else who took part in anti South Africam protests and marches in the '80's and 90's - where are you now? The atrocities that are being commited on a daily basis are a hundred times worse than apartheid ever was, and nobody sais a word!
