I bought OccupySucks.org last week with the lofty goal of convincing some people that they should stop enabling the tools of slavery, stop being stupid slaves, and start taking care of themselves.

Some wise friends encouraged me to abandon that goal and just make money off of the domain instead. The advice I received was to wait for an angry reactionary to offer to buy the domain. I'm open to selling the domain if that is the most profitable option, but in the meantime, I want to try to get some traffic and monetize the site.

I'm just thinking through this now, so I have a lot of work to do, but this is what I've got so far:

Traffic:

- Should be able to rank for 'occupy sucks' pretty easily, but currently no data in the AdWords Keyword tool.

- Should be able to rank for some related keywords.

- Plenty of stuff going on on FB & Twitter, I have @OccupySucks, hopefully I can get some traffic from social...

Content:

- Fuck My Life style forum for opinions and anctedotes?

- Crappy Blog?

I can whip up a basic FML in Django/AppEngine pretty quickly if there is not already some decent script or WP theme available.

Monetization:

- idk. AdWords could work? maybe an info product or some "Occupy Sucks" merch...

- Would love to have an affiliate product that would fit the traffic.

So, I don't have a real clear idea right now, but I'll work on it some more when I get home from work.

Any and all feedback is welcome.

^^ your only catering to the 1%, you should be catering to the 99%

Not really there is small movement called the 53% that oppose Occupy Wall Street Movement (OWS). A a website bashing the OWS would appeal to them. Not sure why they hate OWS but if your just in it for the money then it would get notice. Just Keyword fox news or something.

tell them they can be the 1% if they follow 7 easy steps.

they're ripe for the picking.

also, i give it another 2 weeks and they will back at college spending their trust fund money..trust fund hippies.

tygoldberg: I like it. I need something to sell, and clearly the 99% would like to have more money....

I'm hoping that the OWS movement sticks around for awhile and eventually there is a surge of resentment in reaction to it.

I literally haven't opened up my laptop outside of my lunch break all week, hopefully I can build a FML clone this weekend and start getting some content up on the domain. When those angry reactionaries are looking for a platform to voice their rage, they'll find my site, and maybe apply for some pay day loans while they're at it.

Looks like you haven't done anything with it yet. Here's another idea. Make an account at freerepublic and spew some nonsense they like. Say that Obama is behind the Occupy movements, state some ridiculous piece of evidence, and point to your site for more info. Put some more ridiculous stuff on your site. Don't worry if it sounds dumb, just say Obama is evil, praise Jesus, etc. Think of how ridiculous the pundits are. Match that.

Add some fill-in offers for credit card, home mortgage loan, all of those high-payout financial ones. Most of your visitors will have poor financial skills and need that stuff anyways. They are a great target audience.

Also, things like affiliate amazon link to Bill O'Reilly's new book, since it has been in the news lately. Tie it in, with more stuff about Obama, Occupy, socialists, etc.

I've been reading Free Republic... amazing. I have a main project that I'm focused on, but I'm gonna work on this a bit as a side-project and hopefully bring a friend in to help with the writing.

Give the people what they want. The same people own the left-wing radio stations and the right-wing radio stations. I'm not here to push my agenda, I'm here to give people an outlet and a platform to express themselves and hit people in the mouth, in the morning.

Site is still empty? At least get something up so it can marinate a little bit while you finalize everything else.
