Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize?

As much as I like Obama, I just don't get this. The prize should go to somebody who was starving in some shithole for freedom. How about one of the Iranian freedom fighters?

after that jackass bush, even a bag of chips would win nobel prize for improving diplomacy...

I have to think that there were more qualified nominees than President Obama... and I voted for him.

While I don't doubt that he's tried to start repairing international relations and all, he IS presiding over two wars right now...

Lol OBAMA wins Nobel Peace prize for
a) Successfully allowing Pakistan to escape from international displeasure after Mumbai incidents
b) Allowing North korea to show a middle finger to Obama (obama loves it btw)
c) Allowing IRAN to grow as nuclear threat
d) Not having enough balls to counter the Israel human rights violation against Palestinians
e) In the process of making Peace talks with Taliban

i don't hate the guy but what has he done really? why not Al Gore? i mean he's been pushing and supporting energy legislation which will create more job and he's been helping to support our climate crisis.

what about Bill Clinton? i think when he was running the show, US economy was in good shape. When US economy is Up, other countries is Up.

still not hating on Obama, just a little premature i think

The funny thing is Obama has more than enough time in his term left to actually merit the Nobel Prize, and they want to give it to him now? This is fucking stupid idea.

I just said pretty much the same thing to someone on facebook. I can't think of the word I"m looking for...something like disservice but stronger...anyway I think it's a disservice to Obama who could achieve so much with respects to foreign relations. By all means give him the prize AFTER he's done so.

Affirmative Action Nobel Prize...

This is racist. You don't want to spread crap about him winning a prize because he's black.

However I was thinking more along the lines of Welfare Nobel Prize: "Have a prize and alot of money- you haven't really done anything to deserve it yet but that's what we do!!!"

I think it's pretty obviously political. If you give the leader of a nation, that has been involved in at least two wars for the past 10 years, an award for peace that will weigh heavily on Obama's future decisions about these wars.

I have political views all over the place on issues and even voted for Obama but giving him the noble peace price is pretty ridiculous. He hasn't really accomplished anything yet other than talking about things he is planning to do. He just turned down meetings with the dalai lama to appease China who has been surpressing him and his people for decades, he upped the amount of predator drone strikes in pakistan as well as in somalia, etc. There are a lot of other things he has done that don't exactly say peace plus many things here on the home front such as corporate welfare with banks where the gains are privatized and the losses are socialized. I don't dislike the guy and I am mixed on his ideas but no way in hell should he be getting the noble peace prize.

You all are forgetting the Beer Summit. Where would we be today if that never happened?

Umm... you're 2 years late on that one.
I'm sure it was some of his buddies that helped him get the election so now they figure lets just keep going... Now he gets to return the favor to them...
WTF?

while obviously obama didnt go and seek this out or anything, it continues to play to the "all hype, nothing getting done" story line.

he needs to knuckle down and get some shit accomplished. I'm not saying that like its easy, but if public opinion continues to turn against him, and dems lose seats, its going to be very hard to make significant changes. If that happens, re-election looks much more difficult.

Obama missed a fantastic publicity opportunity. Can you imagine how his political stock would have climbed had he said...

"I am extremely humbled by this. And I cannot possibly express how much I appreciate your confidence in my ideas and efforts. However, given the enormous accomplishments of those who have received this esteemed prize in the past, I feel I must decline it. There is a tremendous amount of work for us, as a global community, to do together. And I hope that when we look back upon our concerted efforts to forge a new path toward long-term global peace and prosperity, we'll do so with the satisfaction of knowing we accomplished it together."

Or, something like that. You know... lots of emotional phrasing that doesn't actually "say" much.

Of course, this assumes he wasn't lobbying for the prize. I'm not that optimistic.
