I will just say that for anyone here who thinks the US has a problem with Socialism, the Canadians, Australians, and UK folks on this board think you are ridiculous. Ask them.
This is the best argument for government intervention into the private sector? Because the Canadians think it's great?
I'll pass - we dominate Canada economically. In fact, we dominate practically everyone economically, with the exception of Japan. And I don't even count China, which has to depend on absurd currency manipulation to stay afloat.
Look at the CRA passed in 1977. Then look at the crazy revisions in 1995. Then look at the dedication of 1 Trillion Dollars to subprime mortgages. Look at Glass-Steagall.
Who did all that? THE GOVERNMENT. Government fucked our economy, and now the same people that fuckin wrecked our economy are gonna fix it...by controlling more? That's one giant fucking setup, and if you can't see that, drink some more of the Koolaid.
I'll tell you what I see - these starry-eyed Big Gov-kids who believe so firmly in the evils of capitalism they sabotaged it in order to remake the U.S. This whole thing was fucking planned, and if I hear one more person say 'deregulation' caused this shit, I'll probably flip. That's the lamest talking point in the book.
We don't want to be Australia, or Canada, or the U.K. We've got one of the most powerful economic engines for a reason - because government keeps its nose out of our business. Because government isn't giving you a pacifier from cradle to grave. It's a rough world, but if you make it, at least you made it on your own instead of a place like France where every lazy asshole gets a check just for existing.
I'll keep my America. Those that love Canada and other welfare states should check them out, cause we're not changing anytime soon - not if the American people have anything to say about it.
And by the way, whoever loftily said they want to discard ideological discussions, what do you think Obama and his ilk are? Ideologues -
we all are. You're one. I'm one. And I've got decades of economic innovation and progress on my side. You people have got double digit unemployment and pathetic economic growth on yours.
