Because we're dealing with a specific question of how to make hundreds of sites. Expanding can be good as well, if you can pull it off, but lots of smaller/lower quality sites are not expandable simply because they suck as standalone creatures, but do well in a pack. Think Zerg vs. Protoss

Don't worry so much about hardware expansion.. By the time you outgrow a dedicated server you're making a very comfortable income....

If that time ever does come you can always get two dedicated servers (2*200$/month) and those could server 10million+ pageviews a month pretty easily...

When you actually have the need for the type of situation you're talking about the money you're making will make it happen
