Been lurking here for a while. I am just getting into IMing but have studied a lot over the last 2 years or so. I'm 36, so I'm really old for this bussiness :D I tried the guru shit 2 years ago I think it was (memory is slipping in my old age). I read Nickycakes guide which was very informative and cleared up quite a lot of my questions. I am getting into AMing but am still unclear about a couple of things.
1. Landing pages-I come up with a domain name for each product I promote?
2. Hosting-I have a wordpress blog hosted on hostgator. I can host multiple domains for the 8 dollars a month I'm paying now?
I feel lost sometimes because I have read and studied for too long. I now know it's time to take action! Please don't think I haven't tried to find answers for myself because that's all I have been doing in the last couple of years. O.K. maybe I wasn't dedicated in the beginning but now I want to work from home and I know I can and will get this shit going with or without anyones help. But I have been driving myself fucking crazy reading through so much information! So if anyone could help it would save me from being in a wheel chair before I launch my first campaign.
 


Just start SOMEWHERE and jump into the cold water. Once you actually start building your site you have tons of WTF moments and 'what about this?', 'what about that?'.

For me the clouds parted the moment I started my 'dunce' thread. Almost like I had an epiphany. Still really don't know crap BUT all of a sudden I feel like I have a roadmap and at least know where I'm going. Doing a writeup for that thread later on tonight.

Newbie answers:
1. Yes, I believe so.
2. Yes you can. However, if you are getting serious a lot of folks advise to get your own hosted server (I'm not there yet - want to start small and see results first)

Sounds like you may have some information overload and are trying to combine certain things that shouldn't be.

A) You need to figure out where you are at in terms of budget - and what you are willing to lose going into this. Now I'm not saying that you won't be profitable or to think negatively, but there is a lot of trial and error, and don't get hooked on a pipe dream and throw away your mortgage payment or savings.

With that said...

B) You need to take your budget, and come to terms with whats the best way to get started in this industry, and ultimately - you have about two options starting out as a newbie:

PPC (i.e - google, msn, fb, myspace, pof, etc) - Keep in mind you will need a sufficient amount jumping into this for landing page design, possibly ad copy, testing, and as a beginner - the trial and error buffer you will most likely encounter.

SEO - Pretty much sums up what you have started to do in terms of grabbing hosting with Host gator and cranking out some initial word press blogs. Installing templates, tweaking, customizing, adding content, utilizing the zillion plugins they have to make life alot easier, etc.

Keep in mind that while they both have a VERY steep learning curve, you are going to be able to pace yourself with SEO/organic and see results over a period of time, where jumping into a paid traffic platform is going to throw a shit load of variables in your direction all at once which might overwhelm you.

Also realize that when you do initially build some of that traffic up to your blogs/websites - you will then be able to split test/optimize your site at a steady pace to fine tune your conversions, whereas on a paid platform you may need to make these adjustments on the fly, and a single fuck up on a large buy could cost you a significant chunk of your ad budget.

You will build the fundamentals going into this either way - however if you do decide to jump into the ppc arena first, I suggest you start small with some email/zip submits to get a feel for the tools needed.

There are way to many variables in this industry to possibly elaborate on everything. Hopefully that will give you some insight as to where you want to get started.

Also keep in mind that if you are a DIY'er (do-it-yourself'er) you will need to come to terms with yourself with what you can realistically accomplish and what you need to outsource.

Landing Page Question:

It depends on the product you are promoting and the traffic you intend to use. There are a few simple rules about landing pages you need to be aware of such as keeping information above the fold and having a strong call to action.

Hosting Question:

With Hostgator the number of domains you can unlimited domains with the Baby Plan and the Business Plan. The Hatchling Plan only allows you to host a single domain.

But first things first, determine your niche and then determine who you plan to market to. For example, if you are selling IM products are you going to target stay-at-home moms and dads?

Think about that first and then learn how to do keyword research to make sure the niche is in fact a profitable one.

Start with these two things and then everything else you need to do will become clearer.

sounds like information overload,

1: pick a 'single' vertical, whether its dating, mobile, education, diet, and build one landing page for it. install prosper/tracking202 and rotate similar offers from the selected niche
2: pick one traffic source (fb, adwords, ppc) and start writing ad copies and launch your campaign
3: monitor your stats and only then, start reading posts/blogs again related to your traffic source/campaign ... its going to make a lot more sense then.
