New Google Social Network - Google Me

Does Google really need to develop their own social network? I mean if they really wanted to they could just get data from a user when they log on facebook through their web browser, OS, etc. (asuming users are on chrome) Now I know that chrome users are hardly a decent percentage but they could focus a bit more energy on marketing and distribution than trying to develop the next facebook or whatever.

Or they might get raped by bing teaming up with facebook. Alls well, I just hope their stock plummets and I get that $500 voucher like one of the above posters mentioned.

some of you may find this interesting...

On April 7, 2010, the Office of Information Technologies (OIT) will
begin phasing out Google Apps at UMass Amherst. At this time,
undergraduate students will no longer be able to sign up for new Google
Apps at UMass Amherst accounts.

**As a current user, you can continue to access Google Apps at UMass
Amherst and, if applicable, receive your @student.umass.edu email
through Google Mail.**

--------------------

WHY ARE YOU DISCONTINUING GOOGLE APPS?
OIT made the decision to discontinue this service because of low usage.
Approximately 7% of the University's 20,000 undergraduates have signed
up for Google Apps since it was introduced in September 2009. Of current
users, only a small number log in frequently.

--------------------

WHEN WILL YOU SHUT OFF GOOGLE APPS?
OIT will continue to monitor usage and discontinue Google Apps when
usage is so low that it makes support of this service unmanageable.
