NEW Facebook Ads

Good luck getting an ROI on that.

I was looking for a recap of the FB discussion at ASW, and read this little nugget on John Chow's blog:

"Alex Schultz of Facebook said this may the last year for affiliates to take advantage of Facebook Ads because they’re getting so big, they are attracting the big brand advertisers who will eventually push out the affiliate marketer."

I wish i heard the direct quote 'cause it sounds like what he really said is they're following Google's footsteps to try and push affiliates out.

Lol...John chow.

Still, FB is retarded if they think branders will pay for overpriced inventory and still be content with the shitty combo of 110x70px static pic, 35 char headline, and 135 char body.

It'll only be a matter of time until the branders demand the same rich media and IAB creative standards that they can get on Myspace.

That's exactly why I think they haven't adopted the standard banners at this point. It's all just a numbers game and honestly I don't think fortune 500's would pay anywhere near the CPM's that FB is achieving with their self serve flyer ads. Having three different ad blocks creates more variety and opportunity for clicks. Offering CPC ads also allows them to step in and help optimize for clicks and make a ton more money. Lets take one of my current campaigns as an example, currently I'm paying around a 50 cent CPM and using the CPC model, nothing spectacular for my CTR but pretty average. You really think that the big branding companies are going to be willing to pay $1.50 for the insane volume of traffic that they have?

Call me a "glass half full" kind of guy, but it seems like we are a pretty important piece of the puzzle at the moment. Alex Schultz did mention that he feels that big companies will be stepping in during the next few years but what exactly is going to change? Facebook will literally just have to accept less money.

If you ask me this is already happening, just intermittently. In the last 6 months I have seen huge media buys happening in turn shitting on any hope of cheaper traffic and raping your CTR. I got smart the first time and started freezing all my ads when I noticed any of this freaky shit going on after I lost $xx,xxx across all of my campaigns.

I think Facebook either needs to add a shit load of users this year (and by that I mean real ones) or find a way to regulate or level the playing field. But with how much money these big buys are bringing in will make them reluctant bc let's face it... They must be spending a lot of dough with how crappy the click through rate is.

its hard as hell to adjust bids and make changes on fb past few days, i get the oops error, something went wrong try again, anybody else noticing this?

i understand your need to vent but if you DO have "Subscription Required $9.99/month" in your ads, just click the link under the disapproval email and request an explanation...most likely they will see their mistake (if there was one) and approve all the ads.

Agreed. This happened today and I got a reversal on almost everything.
