Internet 'kill switch' proposed for US - Security - News

Great...
A new US Senate Bill would grant the President far-reaching emergency powers to seize control of, or even shut down, portions of the internet.
The legislation says that companies such as broadband providers, search engines or software firms that the US Government selects "shall immediately comply with any emergency measure or action developed" by the Department of Homeland Security. Anyone failing to comply would be fined.
 


There is very little State legislators cant do. Democracy has way to much power with only 100 ppl in the senate. They can kill markets. So disgusting

It does seem very strange, however I generally treat stories like this with a pinch of salt. Between all the bias and different news agenda's it's hard to tell what's really going on.

Could just be over hyped, like the 'death panels'. For what it's worth, I trust Obama.

I think this bill is being over-hyped, to me it's nothing more than a null route switch over at the white house in case anyone decides to try something funny.
 
it's just in case the internet goes all skynet-like. got to have provisions in place.

but really - i don't think the government wants to shut down the internet anytime soon, so it's nothing to worry about, for now

think about how ridiculous your statement is. then think about how little ability you have to be even somewhat objective. the united states is now far to the right of where it was even 30 years ago. Richard Nixon was, on many issues, more liberal than barack obama.

There is not going to be an internet kill switch, I dont care what a couple retarded senators propose.

Agreed. But history taught in schools is written by the victors or those who cater to them. Gotta dig deeper for the truth.

You know this. I know this. Slayerment knows this. Most history majors I have met (I am old and have met many) do not know this. The sad thing is that many of them will go on to teach others "history."
