I joined Quixtar for a month about 9 years ago ( that's how new that version of Amway is). The reason I joined was I basically thought it would be like AM/IM. I thought I could sell shit and get paid. I didn't realize it was basically a "system" of self consumption- a company that "sells" shit but really does not have any customers. After i joined I was told to signup for a monthly delivery of $200 worth of toilet paper and stuff, and then signup other people to do the same.
It was touted as a high tech "ecommerce" company, but again there was really not any setup allowed for actually selling shit from a website. it was very lame. I just never bought anything or paid for renewal.
Because I was in it briefly it became very easy to spot these fake 'ecommerce" guys. I ran into them everywhere- especially at bookstores. They were aways recruiting and always very vague- " I have an ecommerce business, I have an internet business" or the great "I'm an independent business owner" . Uh, ok, you are in amway. I liked when they handed out their CD business cards and I knew the deal. They were always shocked I knew what it was. I guess they have to sneak up on people.
I also had a job selling computers and cell phones and I had a lot of these guys as customers. They would come in and say they started a business and buy computers, fax machines, get business cell phone lines, etc. It was pretty sad knowing they would drop a few grand on an office for a fake business and never make any money.
One of my best friends is in an MLM now that's kinda like this but its in telecom. He tried to recruit me. Whats funny is it costs $500 to join this shit, but I can find any number of free affiliate programs with better offers for the same service with much higher payout. Why would I pay $500 to offer a service that will pay me like 50 cents doesnt even allow online sales and would force me to use a cookie cutter replicated site. They also prohibit selling produccts to anyone you don't know. The only money is in talking people into throwing away their 500 bucks.
