I think it's a good idea. If you're going to use the resource section you should be an active member and if you're an active member you should have some rep.

If we based it on posts you could just go and spam away.

Problem is rep systems generally suck pretty bad. If you through incentive on having a higher rep, you also might scare some people into not disagreeing with the majority on certain topics as they would then be bombarded with negative rep.

People already worry about rep too much without having it unlock special resources, throw in private content for higher rep and you'll just cause even more problems IMO.

Just thought I would add my two cents....

I figured given this forum and the laid back attitude that bad rep's for language is a little funny, no?

I usually come into this forum read around and find it quite refreshing to get such a honest bunch...

If someone is not as laid back as others, he/she might dole out bad rep all day long.
