I have a 'hot or not' style site. Members upload their photos and get rated, much like hotornot.com. This is an old site that never really took off like its rivals - it has about 10,000 members and gets about 500 uniques a day. It still gets new signups to this day.

I've tried dating ads but there's a couple of problems. 1) I don't want to push people away from signing up at the site 2) It's not that profitable with the current volume.

Remember people come to the site usually to look at hot chicks or get their own pics rated.

Would be interested in hearing your ideas.
 


Make a contest, hottest person of the day....but to enter you have to upload photo and fill out offer?

Maybe teeth? have a before and after shot of someone who got a 7/10 before teeth whitening, then 9.7/10 after...?
 
How are other "hot or not" style sites monetized? Dating ads, but with higher volumes?

How many of those visits are from new vs. returning users? And how many pageviews do end up with from those 500 uniques?
 
roughly... 80% new visit rate - 500 uniques - 5k pageviews/day

other sites pretty much sell ad space to dating sites. was thinking of building a list, ive tried a few ideas e.g. pitching free weight loss system/plan for signup but the users were unresponsive to it.
 
Send them weekly emails when people comment on their photo (make it up if you have to).

When they log into your site and see the person who commented on their picture and said it was 'hot', have a link on their picture saying something to the likes of "to contact this person, fill out this offer". Makes sure that you're promoting an incent offer and all that good shit.

Will it work?

Hell, I don't know but it sounds good to me. I guess you can try it.

If 80% of your traffic is from new visits you might as well slap ads all over the site especially if you're not spending any money and all the traffic is from the SEO you've already done. Just copy whatever other sites like that are doing. Maybe set up a "premium account" that allows the member to send messages to other members (ie. a guy sees a hot girl and wants to message her) or add people to a favorites list, etc and to get the premium account they have to fill out an incentive offer.
 
I have a site that gets about 20k uniques a month, people link to it all the time but because it's a fun site like yours, it doesn't make money. I tried all types of offers etc but nothing worked. I can't use Adsense on it due to the content.

It's a PR5 and I just use it to link to my other sites. I go back and edit user submitted content and insert my anchor text into the page after it has recieved a lot of Likes and shares on Facebook.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that you can't measure the value of site purely from a revenue perspective. Hot chicks get links so if you get some authority going, go back and drop links to your own shit. Sure, it looks weird when credit cards anchor text is inserted at random places and users will think it's strange but fuck them freeloaders.

you should immediatly start selling links on DP for 30 bucks a month
