can anyone tell me where the hell the Trackback post/parse part in the autoblog script (that bambam posted) is? I want to extract that into a different app to post trackbacks, but cannot find it.

How does it work? does wordpress do the trackback pings?

SEO_Mike,

I was hoping you could clarify something for me.

1) Do autoblogs (not cycle sites) work best with individual RSS feeds? I have seen a lot of feed finders on this thread that seem to pull aggregator feeds, such as technorati. It seems like these would be better suited for true cycle sites.

2) Do you keep your feeds running continuously? It seems logical to keep them running continuously to keep the trackback traffic coming in. However, it seems some people are running them for short periods, and then trying to index their site with the populated content.

3) If autoblogs do work better with individual feeds, do you know any resources to scrape a large number of individual rss feeds, by keyword?

1. If you are looking to make your blog less spammy, then yes.

2. Using Eli's script, you don't need to worry about cron jobs or manually updating the feeds. They automatically check for new posts when someone visits the blog. So, in short, I guess the answer is Yes, they run continuously.

3. Sort of, [SIZE=-1]www.syndic8.com is the closest thing to this I can think of. Getting full feeds is more of a manual process (at least for me, I don't know PHP well enough to automate it)

My results so far.

Ok, so here is my report. I started a video blog on 10/21. I am not going to link it since I want the result to be valid (I am sure you guys understand). I have posted my results so far below.

I have just finished a navigational query site using the suggestions from the this site Making money with Google navigational queries. Since this site is a CPA site and I would like to know what you guys think of it I have linked it below. This thread has been fucking great! I thank you for finally getting me off my ass and for all of the great info!!

Buying gold bullion

Thanks again all of you. I will keep you guys posted. on my results.

Good deal! It's definitely a start! I'm proud of you! (gee thanks Dad!)

Anyhow, I like the look of the header on the Gold Bullion site, but I think you should take the main points and expand on them. Also, make them separate pages. As it is, your page has the appearance of one of those long spammy sales pages we all love to hate.

Here's what I would do:
  • Take all the main points you have there, and create pages for each of those points. Add some additional information and links for more info on each page.
  • Add a page about Gold Coins. You could talk about their collectors value vs. the intrinsic value of gold
  • Do some interlinking between your pages. Say your "Buying Gold Bullion" page mentions the liquidity of gold, link to the "Why to buy gold" page
  • Find some high quality sites that have information on gold and put those on a "Additional Resources" page. Outbound links won't hurt. In fact, they can actually help your site.
  • Have a news page that runs an RSS feed. Magpie works well for this. Or Carp
  • Sign up for some gold affiliate programs (example: Duty Free House)
  • Have a gold price chart on your site for people to check the spot price of gold
Good luck!

At first I think 0.75$ is not so impressive, but I found the site only has 1 page. So it is acctually good enough, at least to me.
But where are you ADs? I can't find them. I suppose you get cash by ADs?

I appreciate the quick response and the praise. I was following the instruction in the guide when it came to the site design. This did allow me to put up this site relatively quick (You never know how little you know about making even the simplest of sites until you try). I am going to leave it as is for a month to see what the response is like. If I see a low conversion then I will work in your suggestions. Well I might add in the gold price chart in.

Hey this is my first time working with Adsense. Is it normal to get 1 cent for 2 clicks? :eek7:

The revenue numbers I posted were for my video blog. I know they are not impressive but my intentions were to show my results so far since I posted I was committed to this challenge. This is my first attempt at making money on the web so any positive return is just another reason to keep building.

The site is using the CPA side of adsense. I just brought that site online yesterday. I have submitted it with the QU.I.T tool and I am waiting for it to be indexed.

total wtf moment.
One of my firefox bookmarks opens up a bunch of affiliate site tabs so I can check all my zeroes: this morning went like this: clickbank zero is still there, adsense zero is still there, ebay/commission junction zero is still there, copeac zero is still there, amazon.com affiliate zero is ... WTF? I "sold" 3 ( somethings ). I didn't sell those. I don't even have a ( something ) site!

I'm 4 bucks up on November 5! Holy Crap! I can retire now!

Seriously... I made 3 commissions on ... something I don't even promote. Not that I'm complaining, but I can't figure out how to get the damn amazon site to tell me what I did to sell them :(

LOL...

Amazon will keep your referral for 24 hours.
Anything that is bought in that time counts for you.

::emp::

But they've been the same 3 items!!! I mean down to the stupid ASIN.

Now only if I can get someone to buy $40K worth of stuff @ amazon, I'll be sitting pretty :)

I sold $400 wirth of nursing books back in the holiday season of 2000, via Amazon... And also a couple of sledgehammers, in the same order, it seems. Strange...

My only check from them... They suck... or I suck... Probably me...

No doubt that sale was to seo_mike... putting his wife through nursing school and picking up a couple of ban hammers for himself. He goes through a lot of them, y'know. :D

LOL!! Ironically, she was in nursing back in 2000, but I wasn't on any forums. Just eBay at that time. :D

where is the "trackback" thing in Eli's code? I think there isn't anything about it in wp-autoblog.php, maybe it is a feature of Wordpress? But I check the blogs which I "scraped", but I didn't find my site in their comments, maybe my trackbacks were identified as "spammer"?

Not all blogs allow trackbacks to appear in the comments section. You just gotta get lucky!

Any chance there's a way to search for and filter away only blogs that allow trackbacks? Hmm, is there any footprint in the HTML source code that indicates trackbacks will be shown in the comments? Maybe I can get my hands dirty and code a fast script up.
