Myspace Sues Affiliate Manager!!

Right now this is strictly a rumor, but I've been hearing from a lot of very well connected people within the industry that in the last hour or so myspace is in the process of suing spammers and those hacker/phisher kiddies. If this is in fact true, we are the first to report it, and I'm sure every spammer/hacker kiddie is heading for the hills! Take that you spammers! :ak:

One of the reasons it's a rumor and not a fact is because I haven't heard of any confirmations that this is true or not. The only thing I have just noticed is that ScreenNameForum.com has closed and permanently deleted it's myspace account selling section, which unfortunately without the owner's knowledge was being used by spammers and hacker kids to sell their stolen accounts and whatnot. Good thing they cracked down too, but I do feel for the owners for not realizing what was going on this whole time! Hopefully they won't get sued either.

Another rumor that flew my way is that one of the affiliate manager leaders at affiliate network's name removed until confirmed -- AM's name removed until confirmed -- is being sued by myspace personally for trying to recruit users who are using hacked accounts to spam myspace with offers for crap like ringtones and email collection sites. Not sure how true that is, but that's the word I've been hearing over and over. Maybe he'll come around here and tell us what really happened if this isn't true.

Alright, just want to point out that everything except for that forum closing that section is a rumor, that forum story is the only confirmed fact I have seen or heard so far. If anyone has anything to add, or has heard of any rumor confirmations being a fact, do let us know!

***
I removed the name of the manager in question and the network he is part of until the story is confirmed.

I was wondering when MySpace would crack down on spammers. I'm surprised they are going to the length of sueing them though (if this rumor true).

I'm actually trying to figure out how Myspace got wind of an affiliate manager doing shady shit like that. The only reason I care is because all of these people are IM'ing me asking if I heard anything and how they found him out..

I came up with two theories:

1. Some kid ratted.
2. Myspace's security team infiltrated that forum posing as someone with hacked accounts, and when the AM told people to spam, they caught on and went after the source of the problem.

I feel like my second theory is probably it, which also kind of makes me feel uneasy because it means that if a corporation really wanted to, they could hang out here and wait for some idiot to do something wrong. But then again, they'd also have to put up with all of our rants too, which can be torture enough.. ;)

Well I have stopped by SNF before and seen many AM from various companies like xy7 where they were asking for phished shit, so they could do their own myspace spamming. Kind of another reason that a lot of people stay away from xy7.

I wonder if they got papers from Myspace as well.. Should be interesting to see if the rumors are in fact true, how everything unfolds. I tell ya, that's one big point to myspace if it's all true. Going after the managers instead of the small guys is like the US going after the cartels instead of the street dealers.

Well least I don't spam myspace :P
I admit I have a couple of accounts but I gave up tryin' to advertise ages ago.

I believe one of the AM's is a member here, who was asking for how to crack myspace accounts:) But if the forum is in fact down there would be no proof I could give or anyone else. But YES, I do know one is a Lurker here.

I could give a rats ass about myspace honestly. But I do have some friends who bang out a few k a day... will have to look them up and check.

If i cant get a hold of them, then maybe it is true, and they are hauling ass to canada or the carribean/

LMAO,,

My limited myspace experience reckons this would be a good thing. We can still make a buck there, just no need to spam.

On the other hand if MySpace had moderation tools in place they'd have reduced the problem significantly ages ago.

Things like digg's "lame" option so if a bulletin gets marked lame x number of times it's withdrawn altogether.

And forum "report this post" would be good too.

A surge in sameday bookings for flights out of the country would be a good place to start researching! :pimp:

Hahahaha Fukn A,,

Thats great. Maybe I should switch over to pushing Travel Offers for some affiliate networks til the dust settles.. lmao

I smell a new up and coming niche... "Helping spammers leave the country by raping them in travel expenses".

I would like to point out that I was the one lurking around SNF for awhile "looking around for phished accounts", but I would also like to point out that I have never bought an account nor have I recruited any MySpacers. I was simply trying to see what kind of money was being spent in this MySpace business (as you'll notice I've never even replied to one of my posts :p).

I hate it when people go ahead and assume things. Yes, I'll admit, I was an idiot for not removing XY7 from my signature when I started to post in the MySpace section...lol...but XY7 has nothing to do with it. I was just wondering what exactly people were willing to pay or want to be paid for a stupid MySpace account. It also happens that while I was posting on the forum I was also talking with the owner of the forum over AIM about becoming an affiliate at XY7 :p

Well, that really sucks that you didn't remove your sig.. You XY7 boys need to start thinking more!

lol...it's not us XY7 boys...just me :p Think about it though. The forum was and is flying...why wouldn't I try to get the guy as an affiliate? :D

Rupert can't keep MySpace up anyway. Not a very reliable source of income if you ask me...

If you're implying that myspace isn't a reliable source of income, you are about to shoot yourself in the foot.. They get more traffic than the all mighty Google monster. That's pretty fucking big. Plus they run their own private CPM rates, and you can just imagine how expensive that shit is, on top of the fact that they must be doing billions of page views a day.

Yeah, but consider the fact that basically anything you do to earn money off of them is against their rules.

Creating a site around myspace without their name in the url that someone else hasn't already made might be an idea, but good luck :p

I'm just saying that getting exposure without getting exposed is probably pretty hard, but I can't really see how they can come down to stopping you with over 100,000,000 other accounts.

I went to ScreenNameForum just now and they don't let you see their "MySpace Sales" section, BUT when I log in as a member it's fine!!

Myspace sales is now paid access only, sent you a PM Jon with maybe a little update.

No that's not true. The Myspace forums at SNF are still available.

And what do you mean with "the owner didn't know it was being used by spammers and hacker kiddies to sell stolen accounts"? It's pretty clear that people are using that forum to sell "phished" and "non-legit" accounts.

Xyz you where making offers on lists and accounts so to say oh i never actually brought anything is a blatant lie because if your making offers your most likley going to buy. Secondly there was a sticky by Maz the admin telling people if you want to make money from your phish lists use xyz.com, now he wouldnt post that unless he was paid by someone from xyz, you guys invite spam. The myspace section is still open at snf just for members, always will be from what i hear as the forum isnt doing anything illegal. And about myspace sueing ive got 3 emails from myspace abuse team lately 2 to my server providers and one which was direct to me, all ive said is it wasnt me i paid someone to get me some traffic, as i use proxies only on myspace bulletin bots they cant prove it was me (my server provider gave them my ip etc) I cant see many affiliate managers getting sued but if any did i think it would be from xyz :) lol
