Hey,

Decided to signup for MSN Adcenter today and give it a try. There are obviously some benefits to it vs Adwords but the Adwords interface, settings, and desktop tool makes Microsoft look like a bunch of morons..

Anyway I'm having some trouble figuring some things out that Adwords makes simple and logical. I contacted a rep but that will probably take 2-4 months for a response..

1) How do you set an entire campaign to run only at certain times? I saw that you can set each individual ad group for time slots. They expect you to pay 10% more because of that (fuckin stupid) and will 300 ad groups, if they think i'm going to click through and configure each one by hand they're even more fuckin stupid then I first thought.

2) How do you determine estimated front page bids? Same as before, you can go to each individual ad group, change your bid, then hit 'Update performance' or whatever. By the time I go through each ad group and check the offer will probably be fuckin expired. Any tips here?

3) The help docs seem to state that even though you pick a specific region or country, it won't keep traffic 100% in that area. It sounds like they say that "most" of your traffic will come from here. Is that a fuckin joke too?

I think that's it..maybe i'll come back and add a few

Thanks a lot as always..

You are right when it comes to setting up your ads to run at differenty times ...the only option is to go in each adgroup and set it up manually. The good thing is you don't need 300 adgroups. if you use param1 for dest urls and dki param2 and param 3 for your ads you can dump 300-400 keywords in a single adgroup and then setting up your hours would be way easier. As for bids, you select update bids for position 1 without hitting save then you see what keywords are heavily bided on on also you can get a general idea how the bids go and then you can set em up in excel very easily and mass import. maybe it would be better to separate the keyword with biggers bids in a separate adgroup so it will be easier to manage your bids. Talking about customer service, MSN has hands down the best support just get the number from you help tab and a rep will stay on the phone with you as much as 2 hours as long as its needed to address all you questions. It will take a day or 2 to get uses to their system but once you do your opinion will be way different.

Also you dont have to bid anything extra unless you wanna pick your audience. Imo its not worth as msn is providing you with quality traffic most of the time. Just think whos using live.com or msn.com and their websites network. Good Luck

Thanks..

I'm not sure what you mean by param1 and 2 etc..

to add the keyword to the URL for tracking you just use {keyword} right?

How do you use dynamic keywords as the ad title - and more importantly, a default title incase the keyword is too long?

in msn you dont use {keyword} its a lil different . for each keyword you will have to set param1 in the dest url column (when you are editing your keywords)something like www.acaireviews.net acai berry so that way for each keyword you send them to your desired page then for the ads you will use param 2 or/and param 3 . so for instance in you title ad you want to appear best acai berry you will put in param2 column best acai berry. once you set your keywords properly then you move to the ads tab. There in title ad you put {param2:Acai berry} so that way if you have a keyword longer that 25 char it will show acai berry or your preset param whichever the case might be. Also make sure in the dest URL you will choose param1 so it will go to your desired page. Play with it a little bit and once you get used to it will be very simple. A little differnt but kinda easy imo.

you will see all of this in you keywords tab under edit keywords. the first one its more diff to set but once you do it will be very easy

Umm I added {keyword} at the end of my ad destination URL and it has been working fine - just like adwords...

I still have no idea what you're trying to explain with the multiple param's. All users are going to the same place - it doesn't matter what the keyword is.

Yea the docs said you can use {keyword} as your add title without a problem..

Thanks though - i'll consider throwing everything into one ad group.

There are no quality score like things right? Doesn't matter if I toss em all together?

Go in any adgroup and select keywords and then click edit keywords and then you will see a table with all the param1 param2 and param3 and negative keywords. It will be much easier for you to use those if you wanna set up multiple ads and specific lps for each individual keyword. But at the end whatever its easier for is what you will use. As i said earlier that way you will have much more flexibility in working with bigger keyword lists.

It doesn't affect me and i have live 540 keywords in one adgroup and ctr is 4.5%. Not bad

Btw you can test your ads in prolly max 10 min after you activate your campaign so that way you'll make sure everything works properly. Cheers

Alright thanks - I have no need for params but its an interesting feature. I'm starting to like adcenter more and more. Definitely has some positives (no QS, for one).

i actually really like using adcenter...grab the desktop tool & adIntelligence for excel, both are free and are awesome, btw {keyword: XXX} works similar to adwords but just doesn't give you the option to capitalize the keywords

Yea I wanna download the desktop app but I'm not getting a link to download. It says if you have less than 100K keywords there will be a link on your adcenter home page. No link though..

With the lower search traffic i'm starting to think I should turn my mid-long tail exacts to broads..

What do you think?
