For productive debate, it is helpful for all parties to start from the same place (i.e. an axiom). For example, were I to debate the merits and/or morality of taxation - or any type of property expropriation by the state - I might first ask my opponent whether he agrees with the libertarian ethic of non-aggression. If he does not, we must find another agreed upon starting point, which is likely to change the scope of the debate.

Without an axiom, it is difficult to have any sort of productive discourse. Lacking such, "debates" usually deteriorate into volleys of name-calling and witless insults - or simply put, internet debates.


If nothing else, I've learned that as soon as one discovers in a debate of any sort that your opponent/partner has different Prime Axioms, unless you share the Axiom of Open-Mindedness (discussed below), the wisest thing to do is immediately terminate the discussion, back away slowly (possibly with one hand on your wallet and another on a small but powerful handgun), and go do something useful, like doing a crossword puzzle, or taking a nice long nap, or playing World of Warcraft until your mouse-hand is sore.

Lol i'm not trying to rip ya bro, I'm just being honest. There's always going to be someone smarter/more knowledgeable/richer than you and that's just life. Even though you're pretty much at the bottom of the totem pole, there's no reason why you can't be just as happy and productive as the average man/woman. I think history often romanticizes our ancestors and forgets to mention how many of them were fucking idiots.

So live your life, be proud of who you are and just do the best that you can.

That is fucking disgusting. What's sad is I know some of my friends agree with this--and then I want to point out that they never stay in all weekend to grind. Or stay up until 7 am and then wake up 3 hours later to start again.
