Macbook Air

So your saying a laptop that is about 12 mm thick is not reliable?

Who would have thought that?

I bought it for when I'm lounging around on the couch or in bed (since it's so light) buuuut apparently it can't handle that.

The fucker won't even turn on now, this is the second time I've had this problem in the last 2 months.

The problem = it's a macbook air.

I've had a macbook pro for about 3-4 years and it's still running strong. I also abuse the hell out of it - dropped from 3 feet, banged up, all that shit. Slap on 6GB ram to it, SSD and it's rolling like a new unibody.

I also have a unibody. :o

My friend had the same problem and he went through 2 of them. Never dropped it or anything either. Do yourself a favor and just buy a macbook pro. I purchased one used from best buy and it runs like a champ and I have never had any problems at all.

Being an OSX user myself, I'd seriously disagree with anyone who says it can't be as productive as windows or *nix. It comes with more shit built in to handle my server than windows.

Far as the macbooks... I laughed at the price and offering of the macbook air, you basically pay extra for the size, but get a lot less hardware/power than the equivalent priced macbook which isn't that much thicker by comparison.

I've been using my white macbook since march of 2008, its been a great little machine, course I had to replace the keyboard 2 times and the battery once. (battery was getting bloated, they replaced free of charge even though it was out of apple care)

First time the keyboard was replaced was because the corner of the chasis was chipping which was covered under apple care, so complete keyboard/trackpad replacement done in an hour. Second time was because I spilled root beer on the thing, was out of apple care, apple wanted 300$ as a "fix all", ifixit.com wanted 180$ for a replacement keyboard/trackpad, I ended up getting a black one off ebay for 15$ and installing it myself resulting in :

Used some keys from my old keyboard, and re-arranged the keys into the dvorak layout (my wife hates me whenever she wants to use my macbook).

Nice. I don't think I could type on that though.

Did you have to use a heatwrap to install it or did it just slide in?

That actually looks pretty rad... good way to jump away from the generic macbook look.

My white macbook had the same issues. The battery got bloated and the front of the bottom case started cracking. Not being near an apple store (no apple care at the time), I sold it as is to a friend.

I’ve since upgraded to a unibody 13" macbook pro and hooked up with apple care. So far so good.

I have an air for 4 months now...not a single problem. I never had a laptop die/get problematic on me.

I can get you a replacement, I just need your zip code.

I found out that the hard drive is fucked and they told me at the mac store that it's not covered after 1 year. I bought the 3 year warranty from Best Buy, so I'm going to get it fixed there then SELL THE P.O.S.

While I was at the mac store I went ahead and bought the 15 inch Pro and looks like I might fall in love with this one (crosses fingers)

If anyone is curious I went with the 15 inch 2.53 ghz intel core i5 model.

Do you guys think this will be able to handle photoshop/dreamweaver and maybe after effects fine? I'm about to install now.
