I just saw TechCrunch's review of the new mac book air. He is saying that he totally replaced his Macbook Pro. I find it hard to believe a air could perform as well as a new mac book pro. Maybe the size of it is weighing on his review.

So my question is does anyone have one or know someone who does? How well does it do running photoshop and other like apps required for affiliates?

I believe him , though most of teh speed was due to the SSD.. but compared with his 17" with an SSD. Not much to do with his review, but I am so Buying it anyway... I bought a New Macbook Pro 5 months back though.... Apple is so FUCKING Wicked... but what the heck 13" AIR..,. is like OMG for a diehard fanboi

Airs won't replace all your stuff. Several people in my class got them last year and they didn't run nearly as fast as the PROs out at the time. The PROs have been upgraded since then and I doubt the new Airs will compare - if they did, then Apple wouldn't have a Macbook line, let alone a Macbook pro line.

It will run Photoshop and what not, but I doubt it'd run a ton of stuff at once without bogging down the CPU. Just look at the RAM that comes default on it.

I had the first macbook air and unless they made hella changes I would stick with the macbook pro!

It sounds like they did, I am probably going to grab one next month or so. I need to figure out if its worth it trading in my 2.4 2008 MacBoo Pro for one of the higher end Air's first.

Really I probably could just get a SSD for my Pro, but people have been saying to avoid the ssds on mac since they do not support trim function needed to keep ssds from bogging down. I can only assume Lion will have trim support given all the ssds they are selling.

I was going to buy a new air but went for the SSD in my MBP instead. It flys and is much cheaper. I'm on a 13" MBP so the larger res on the new air would be nice though.

The techcrunch review said his air runs faster than his mbp. Probably just the SSD though imo.

I just bought the 11-inch Air today.

The one thing that stands out to me is how fast it is. It loads incredibly quick (within a few seconds), and the portability of it is an obvious plus.

Overall, it's great. I'd definitely purchase if you're going to use it for web-surfing, e-mail, etc. I don't plan on using it to store a bunch of shit.

the dude writing that article is a fucking journalist, of course an SSD with long battery life is gonna get him hard, he's not doing video/coding/photoshop/audio/anything-taxing-on-a-computer

That being said, I have a 13" air in the mail with a 2.16 proc and 4 gigs of ram. Will be my first mac. I'll report my impressions when it gets here

If you can replace your desktop or high-end laptop with a macbook air then that says a lot about you and what your online activities include. The guy writes text for a living; he needs a word editing app, email, and google.

Furthermore MG is like TC's worst fucking writer, people bitch about him constantly. There is no doubt in my mind the man would drop to his knees and give Jobs' dick the full service, should he ever ask. MG creams his panties over anything Apple related.

The new airs are extremely bad-ass. I just checked em out at the apple store and what can I say, they are sexy. Probably picking up one for my mom this Christmas or something.

They seem nice if all you're going to do is stuff that's not that intense. Like an upscale netbook that doesn't look like a pile of shit, and also has a bigger screen.

nah, they have specs in line with the low-midrange macbook pro's, they don't have shitty atom processors in them.

I'm looking forward to mine, and I regularly run VM's and photoshop simultaneously

For fuck sake! doesn't he even redeem himself?

one problem with SSDs: finite number of writes means your HD is 100% guaranteed to brick after a certain timeframe. it can read, but not write to it so it makes virtual memory impossible. this isn't a mac or PC thing it's just a physical limitation of SSDs.

How could the airs replace a mbp? The screen is tiny? I work off a mbp 15" and no way could i stare at a 11/13" screen all day

On older models, yes. Newer SSDs last a lot longer. Even older ones had to write non-stop for 5 years+, which isn't something that ever happens practically. Also the lack of moving parts means it'll probably break down a lot later than a normal HD.

Damn you weren't kidding about this hipster fanboy. He would suck Steve Jobs dick in a fucking heartbeat.

As for the Macbook Air, i'm happy with my 15" MBP.

^ He used that text as a joke.. every key note Steve Jobs uses the same words over and over again to describe everything they do. He hypes every product he talks about like its the best thing they ever made and will change the universe.
