It's not as much fun on a mindless fun basis and it's hard to get into because Id isn't supporting the game like they should. The actual gameplay is fine, but there is still no matchmaking of any kind, and the servers aren't populated/branded enough to build any sort of regular community.

Last time I checked they had < 5 people working on the entire project. Kind of depressing really. Every new game mode they add just fragments the free/paid players and splits the paid players even more. The game is actually pretty cheap ($24-40 a year I think), but it's just hard to get into.

Try instaCTF, I pretty much play that and clan arena exclusively and I'm always seeing the same guys. So, around these game types, there's certainly a community.

If I wanted to play a futuristic game I would have bought Mass Effect... I was hoping they'd continue with the original Black Ops timeline, but whatever. Fuck Treyarch.

I loved the CoD series up to MW2, but I grew tired of shoebox maps with flip flopping spawn points with no clear front and battle lines. I am thoroughly enjoying BF3 and still occasionally play Red Orchestra and WWIIOL for it's single server arena and half scale map of Europe.

I'll admit it

I enjoyed CoD World at War multiplayer

BF3 is awesome, just wish they had a search and destroy game mode (only for smaller maps though). But been having a lot of fun mastering the helicopters.

Anybody played Tribes Ascend?

Free to play, nice fast paced action. I personally can't get into as I love Quake too much, but maybe others here will like it.

The reason I like Quake isn't because you can't rocket jump like a mad man etc. But because it's the ultimate intellectual FPS, and you have to play smartly to win. If you watch duels between top players, rocket jumps are very rare.

In COD, a noob can probably kill a "elite" player 1 in 10 times with no problem because of the unbalanced weapons, perks etc. and generally bad game design.

In Quakelive, if you put a noob vs a player like Rapha or Strenx. The noob wouldn't get a kill 1 in 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times and that's being optimistic. Even me a Tier 4 player (think masters in SC2) probably can't get a kill against them in a Duel. Most noobs don't last in Quake because they literally think people are cheating because of how pinpoint some fucker's aiming are in that game. Which is one of my theory's on why the game hasn't popped off yet, most people aren't willing to get they're egos crushed when they get railgunned 4 times in a row from the other side of the map.

Quakelive has been "battle tested" on the highest level of e-sports for over 10 years and is probably the most balanced FPS out there outside of CS 1.6. It's been an E-sport since the first WCG so you can bet your dick that it's balanced as fuck.

I like it how there's no recoil, environmental factors etc. It's just pure gravity and the behaviors of the game universe. That's why you can mod the game to your liking e.g. change the color of character models, crosshairs, FOV etc. Programming your own cfg file is just as important as your skills with a weapon. It's actually encouraged and you can download top pros config file if you think your style of play is close to theirs. A true skill game.

There's still quite a following for QL in Europe etc. probably because they're smarter than Americans. (Joking cocksuckas) But in Australia there are tons of players and I never have problems finding a good populated game.

Don't believe me? Anybody who thinks their king of COD / BF or whatever the fuck with 4.00 K/D or some shit duel a decent Tier 4 player. You'll be crying hax or will rage quit within 2 minutes. It's like a bronze level player in SC2 beating a Korean pro gamer.

edit: So elitist, but yeah, I play TF2, BF3, Left 4 Dead etc. because they are FUN, most people can't be fucked to dedicate themselves to a game like Quake, but I'm just saying that it takes more skills. :)

World at war was pretty awesome. I don't ever prestige, so soon as I hit max level I just used the flamethrower non stop. Such a good time.

Tons of fun. Most people are bad at FPSes because they have their mouse sensitivity set to damn near the highest it can go. I swear if most people had to make >10in for a 360 in game, their KDR would go up at least .5 if not more.

I also don't understand how people can't ski properly at all. I started using a trackball yesturday, and I can still do all the same routes without any problems for the most part. Meanwhile, you have people who have spent 40+ hours in the game and have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

Sometimes a simple change really does make all the difference.
