Ah, yeah, that's true. PHP is pretty uncommon on shared Windows servers... a lot of them do have mysql though.

Yea because SQL Server is quite expensive.

I've run a Windows based server before (Win2k3) and I didn't have any problems with it. The only reason I moved it to CentOS was because of better software availability. There's a lot of great open source software that's written only for *nix and not Windows.

I use Linux server, Apple for design and development and a Windows too for testing purposes.

I have developed on both. There is more general info available for Linux hosting though on the web etc.
