Legal Questions - Ad Images

Consult your attorney, I did.

Guys, if you consult your attorney, you will use stock photography. Anyone who thinks they are above the law and uses some girls pics without their permission deserves to get fucked.

The downfall is that "real" pictures fetch a much higher CTR. So what you could do is get some young girls to pose for you, make them sign a form, and buy them some beers.

You really think that picture of that dumb chick can afford a lawyer? Only if her dad is a trademark lawyer will you have any kind of problem, not to mention that you wouldn't be targeting females with a picture of a girl, so said person could never see the picture anyway. Unless of course her retarded brother whose single sees it but then again he would probably laugh and not even know it's an ad.

uhhh wrong. I've run into multiple ad and landing page situations where the girl ends up being some kind of a model, and threatens legal action.

You dont think when her friends, coworkers, ect see someone they know they're not gunna say something? thats just ignorant :p

Use stock images - they are the safest bet, and only cost pennies for the ad sizes that you're going to need for social/display ads. You'll also never run into legal issues by using stock images that you pay for marketing use, so you won't have to worry about getting a C&D in your inbox every time you check your email. There are dozens of websites to choose from, and you'll offset the cost of the images within a handful of conversions.

distort/cut/whatever and run them through TinEye Reverse Image Search

if they pass you are at least a little further on your way

Ofc you really shouldnt break the law, just use stock images or search flickr for commons pictures allowed for commercial use.

definitely use stock photos for dating ads, but its hard to compete against the guys who use girl's profile pics since their CTR will be higher. any other type of images you probably dont have to worry much except when you get your first C&D

reduce risk - pluck images from social networks, but search other countries. Poor countries with white people work best.

Anyone know if it's harder for a person from another country to sue you? Are there more hoops to jump?

becareful to use someone photo. My dad's company mistake use one of other company website similar picture, get sued and paid us30k

Run an audition on a college campus and a/b test all the images then only pay the highest CTR girl? How much would you pay her...

Cool site but I dont think it really helps protect from anything. Anyone know a good stock photo site where images look real...not all edited and perfect?

It doesn't protect you per see, but if you fool their search chances are good you fool the searches of the kind of agencies that takes peoples moneies to protect their intellectual property on the internet.

What do you guys do about the images your lp designers use? Do you make them email you receipts of the images they buy or something?

Until people take "Affiliate Marketing" aka CPA as a serious business and do it professionally there will always be a bad name out there. Take the extra steps and you will build out a longer term biz. I understand why people want to use the myspace pics cause they look more candid or as a real memeber. You dont really find that on istock, but there are plenty of other place to find others that you have legal right to use. Do a little research it.
