It's absolutely awful, but if someone is bent on killing themselves, it's nearly impossible to fix the problem by making a few laws.
Alcohol was illegal in the US , yet people still made it and consumed it during the prohibition. Unless you start to deal with the underlying reasons of drug use , then you're just trying to convince yourself you're trying but in actuality not doing anything.

No one USING the shit would have the brains to figure out the high-inducing part of Heroine and chemically duplicate it with household goods. That goes for the drug dealers too, even their mixing lab folks, who likely didn't pass top of their class at Oxford. (And what incentive would they have to make such a cheap, no-profit drug that these fools can make themselves out of household goods???)

5% of all Russian drug users are on krokodil and home made drugs, and that makes 100,000? But then that means there must be 2 million drug users in Russia, and I thought it said earlier that there were 2 million heroin users? The figures only work if every single drug user in Russia also injects heroin....

Sure, the U.S. government may be heading towards a shithole. But the U.S. people are doing quite well. No, we aren't perfect. And yes, we have some incredibly lazy people. But we also have some bright minds and hard workers.
And the same goes for any other country. I'm a proud citizen of the U.S., but i'm also a proud citizen of the World. I think 50 years from now we're going to be laughing at ourselves for being so paranoid about this doomsday apocalypse.

I would agree, except heroin is much cheaper here than in Russia if you go by the numbers in that article. Also, codeine is RX only, so a bit more difficult to get. And while it is relatively easy to get codeine in Mexico, it wouldn't make much sense for Mexican Mob to start mass producing this shit over producing their own heroin.
Seems like it's the opposite in US, lots of people that get hooked on Oxycontin switch to heroin because it's actually cheaper.
