Just Getting Into Bourbon/Whiskey - Suggestions?

How can anybody actually enjoy the taste of hard alcohol? I enjoy the getting drunk part but definitely not the drinking part. Perhaps I am too young, and my palate unrefined...
Shots of Patron go down so smooth. If you don't like the taste of hard alcohol perhaps you might like:

It only takes 12 to feel a buzz!

Laphroaig is a lovely Isley malt. Very smokey and distinctive though.

Another interesting little Isley is this one here:

And never, never mix it with coke. Maybe just a splash of water.

Im from Kentucky and have family right in bourbon country.

woodford resv is very high up on my list as well as select single barrel and small batch bourbons.

knob is ok

look at a Four Roses, Eagle Rare 17, Pappy Van Winkle 23, Rowan Creek 17, Black maple hill, Blantons or Bookers.

try those out above, you wont be sad you did

Awesome thanks for the recommendations. I've heard good stuff about Eagle Rare 17 and Four Roses - never heard of the rest.

I have a reasonable sized collection of single malts, but this is one of my favourites:

You're doing it wrong man. I would never drink scotch to get pissed, that's what beer is for. Scotch is good for watching a late movie with or a conversation.

Or just the sheer bloody enjoyment of having something akin to warm gold and honey slide down your throat.

+1 for pappy van winkle if your looking for something more high end.

bookers is another one of my favs but fair warning its got a fairly strong alcohol taste and a high proof. probably will love it or hate it.

For Makers if you haven't already be sure to pick up a bottle of the new Makers Mark 46. I find it smoother and cleaner than the reg makers and its become my go to bourbon at most bars.

a surprise to me for a cheaper bourbon was russesl's reserve its pretty damn smooth.
