Just Dropped My CPU Core Temp by 50C In 5 Mins

The catch is, the addon GPUs can not be a higher model than the onboard one. So I am looking at Radeon HD 6670 cards:

I wouldn't sacrifice performance for the sake of utilizing the onboard video. Just get a pair of whatever video cards you want most and forget about it. It's not going to provide any substantial improvement and you're only intentional crippling yourself trying to use it.

It's looking good, though I would have gone with a modular power supply. All the extra cables drive me a bit mad. Have you booted it up yet?

Yeah, I am in the BIOS right now. There's tons of new shit in there I have to read up on. Other than some of the Dells we have at work, I haven't really been in a BIOS that has mouse functionality.

It has been up for about an hour, and the CPU temp hasn't budged at 33C. If it stays below 40C overclocked at full load, I would be good with it. Board temp right now is 25C. The cores are running at 4.1GHz, I shouldn't have a problem getting up to 4.5 stable.

The front panel has a switch for the lights and a fast/slow/off switch for the front/side fans:

LOL the side fan kinda looks like a swastika:

I think what I'm going to do with the GPUs is run a couple Radeon 7750 or 7770 in crossfire, but without running dual graphics, so they are independent of the onboard GPU.

I had a heatsink like that and it sounded like a fucking helicopter was hovering over my house. Could hear it from outside the house....(10 years ago though maybe shit's quiet now)

At work we just got some little 8"x8" form factor computer for demos with i7 cpu, 16gb ram, and amd gpu that's pretty neat and was $1200. I was surprised the water cooling system was only like $80 extra.

^^^ Yeah, looking at these guys Systems & Bundles » Barebones PC's » Gigabyte Barebones & Mini PC - Overclockers UK. Fit in the palm of your hand with big box specs, you just add storage and memory in whatever configuration you like. Would be absolutely perfect for an office full of peeps.

Yeah, intel has one that is 4"x4"and like 1.5" thick but it wasn't quite fast enough for what we needed.

We needed something we could ship around the country to different trade shows/exhibits that's fast enough to handle a microsoft kinect sensor for input and run a 3d game I made. The boss just takes the sensor and pc in his carry on and buys a flatscreen TV at each location.

Ok I just got some Arctic MX5 as it seems to be the badboy online, in tests. I agree that I do need some. Esp as you say, the old stuff has been cooking and air dying in heat in a partially open cooler/chip joint. It probably resembles wet cheese pieces by now, and is probably turning solid.

Will let you know how it goes - hopefully it hits the 10C drop I'm looking for.

Sidenote: one site tested mayo out, and it did better then some of the pastes in tests. Though it's likely to dry up real fast, this was still interesting!

EDIT: Jryan - wtf is that!?! Some crazy set up!

Wow, glad to read this thread got some of you to look at your temps and improve!

My update - I cleaned up the old paste wih isop, and added the new. When the side panel was removed, the core temps read between 33C and 38C. Awesome right? Well no.

As soon as my side panel was back on, the temps crept up again to 44C! Looks like I need a better fan for air removal.

Sidenote: I still can't believe the shitty/fiddly way that the CPU fan clamps in on top of the CPU, with those awful clamps and pins. Intel move towards the 21st century, PLEASE...

Anyways, I actually changed an old noisey fan out as well, so now my setup is running cooler and quieter. Add in the overall 55C temp drop, and I'm happy for now.

What do people who do IM need lots of local processing power for? Graphics / video work I can understand, but I can't think of anything else.

A few weeks ago, the server I use a central file/media/tv server (Usenet/XBMC/HDHomerun Prime ftw!) server began to overheat. It was still using the stock cooler. So, I made a slight upgrade. Running 24/7, it barely goes a few degrees above room termperature.

and now that im a troll, how about you quit bragging about 50C in 5 mins. grab some liquid nitrogen and freeze that bitch
