Is this reality? rental prices

Danke, I know there is much cheaper places in Florida. My grandparents used to live in Bonita Springs. You can find houses like this:

Beautiful 3Br/3Ba Pool Spa ANNUAL LEASE Home - Rentals

Or even something like this:

Beautiful House For Rent Home - Rentals

Or do you just like that area you live in?
I'm in the most expensive part of Florida (primarily for networking and "the life"), go north a bit and it's way cheaper. Like Port St Lucie or Fort Myers out west...

Wow nice pics G. That's exactly what I'm talking about.
Yeah. First pic is a winery.

Let me guess, your secret lair and base of operations is inside that hidden cave behind the waterfall. :)

This, this, this.

I go to town (12k people) once a week, and after an hour, I want to go back home.

Nice area, I was just there in July. My sister's wedding was at the Salmon Arm Golf Club.

Spain has also made it much more attractive to buy recently - anything over 160,000 euros will get you a permanment residency visa (looks like it's just for Spain at the moment but they are trying to make it for all of the EU).

Unfortunately the diving in Spain sucks and the surfing isn't great either so I can't see myself living there long term but it is an attractive offer.

too bad that is a frozen wasteland probably what ... 6 months out of the year

I can't understand why would you pay 5000$ a month just for a O.K. apartment in Singapore or Hong Kong and then another few thousand $ for everyday expenses like eating, etc. As many people pointed out you need at least 10 000$ to live normally.

You could live like a FUCKING KING in Thailand(Even in Bangkok) for 10 000$ a month... But for around 4000-6000$ you can live VERY GOOD in places like Phuket, Spain, Germany, Indonesia, Dominican Republic ?

I mean if you are a IMer and it doesn't matter where you are, why would you spend 10k$ a month to live in a shitty 40 sq meter appartment in Hong Kong or Tokyo or whatever, when you could spend the same amount to live in a 5 bedroom villa in an exotic destination?

Which is why I am moving out of Singapore next year.

:)

I mean if you are a business director of a SG Company or you are managing a local branch of a big US company yea I understand why you are there.. But you spend over 5k$ just to get by, you aren't living lavishly, I don't like to limit myself that is why I am still living in Bulgaria but moving to Amsterdam next year. But even in Amsterdam I can rent a big house with 3-4 Bedrooms which is like 150-200 sq meters for under 2000 EUR a month, and I'll be splitting the cost with 2-3 other people, or I can rent a smaller 2 bedroom appartment big enough for myself + a girl or something for under 600-700 EUR a month.

Yes, I live here. There are pros and cons.

PROS

1) Good infrastructure.
The internet here is pretty fast (http://www.speedtest.net/result/2320193449.png). The streets and buildings are well planned and thought of. And it's clean.
2) Rule of law
The legal framework here is good for business dealings except when you're against the ruling party PAP.
3) Food
There's a lot of variety of food here. You can find a lot of good Italian, Japanese, French, Thai, Chinese restaurants here. My favorite is Japanese ramen Nantsuttei.
4) Personal safety
You can walk at 3 am and feel safe.

1) The internet speed you showed me sucks, I've only seen worse in the UK and in Cuba and remote islands, its only slightly faster than Satelite Speeds
2) I don't think it matters really where you are based if you run a SEO agency or sell Weight Loss Pills unless you do it localy/have a local office
3) You can find good Food Diversity in any City that has over 50 000 People
4) Just don't live in Compton or Detroit and you won't have safety problems

No. What the fuck for? You can get a whole house on the Mediterranean coast (or lots of other places around the world) for less than €1k a month. Why on earth would you want to be in a shoebox apartment in some Asian city for several times as much? Seems like an insane waste of money to me.

For €4k, or €10k, or whatever, you could get a mansion here, with a vast yard, pool, tennis courts, the works.

I've never understood this either.

The download speed should be up to 100 Mbps, but somehow when I took it last time, the speed was at its worst. I just took it again

I think for SEO agency, you will need to have physical office location in the same country, no?

Why do you consider all of the wickedfire members are singles? I got kids and I will never live in that shitty country like thailand with horrible education standards. When you have kids, you will most likely choose a safer country for them. Till then enjoy your life.

Just to clarify on $10K a month rental. My friend lives in my condo and renting a penthouse for which he pays $16K a month. Beat that. Its fairly common to pay $4K+ for a condo rental in singapore.

I agree. It's 2012 and we are living in a globalized world. People don't seem to realize this quite often. You pretty much can get anything anywhere.

Also, this SpeedTest site doesn't make sense in my opinion.
At the end of the day, what counts for your surfing experience is the latency to the US (or wherever you surf most).
SpeedTest will measure with a server that is the closest to you, so the ping you are seeing there is irrelevant (but probably the most important factor).

Check this: Latency (engineering) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If you are sitting in a province in Cambodia, your download speed might be alright, but to establish a connection in first place might take ages since light has to travel through a labyrinth of cambodian network cables until it reaches some sealink cable that will connect directly to the US.

People who pay those kind of prices to RENT in H.K. and Singapore are nutts. Absolutely crazy.

I already feel bad enough dropping $1.2k a month to my landlord, knowing that I'm paying his fucking mortgage and owning nothing in the process. I can't even begin to imagine paying a 5k or 10k rent. God. What's wrong with people?
