Is Something Wrong, Or Am I Impatient?

I have a site that is exactly 2 weeks old today. It is in an uncompetitive niche from what I could tell. Competition has little backlinks, only advantage they have is their PR, and Age, and their not affiliate sites.

The main keyword gets 74,000 searches monthly. My domain is buykeyword.net.

My concern is I am not ranked at all in the first 700 results for the keyword. I am ranked on the first page (last result) for "buy keyword" and also on the first page (third result) for "keyword .net). The site is very keyword dense, but does not come across as overly spammy.

Is there a problem/reason why I am not indexed yet for my main keyword?

Or am I just being an impatient noob?

You're probably just an impatient noob, but you didn't say how many backlinks you've built in that 2 weeks and how many of those had the anchor text you're shooting for.

I have a site that's 2 weeks old, has around 300 backlinks at the moment, 75% of which are for my targeted 2 keyword phrase, and it doesn't rank for that phrase in the top 500. However it ranks page 2 for half a dozen related 3 keyword phrases.

In my experience, it takes some time to break into the 2 keyword phrase rankings. A week or two usually isn't long enough to see results for that specific of a keyword phrase. Just hang in there and keep building links.

Honestly, I'm not sure how many. Somewhere around 50 seems accurate, but only ~10 had anchor text, most were profile backlinks. It's only backlinks from here on so I should get a lot more done.

Hopefully I'll rank soon. How long is too long to be waiting for?

How many words is the main keyword?
2 words.

No good answer for how long is too long. Every site is different, but even if the competition is low for your niche, you're probably going to need at least a few hundred links, with the proper anchor text, to really see results. This could be accomplished in weeks or months. For now, just keep building links with that keyword phrase, but also mix in some other variations as well, so the link building looks natural. Do some blog commenting, buy some in content links, and build a few other web properties to put your link on..i.e. hubpages, squidoo, ezinearticles. All of those will help your cause.

Alright, I tried to spend a little more time on this site this week.

First of all, Google AdWords Keyword Tool initially reported my main keyword was being searched 74,000 monthly, now it says 5,400....:angryfire:

My site is still nowhere to be found in the top 11 pages for the (2 word) main keyword. On the first page of the SERPS the highest amount of backlinks is for the site ranked 10th, with 181 backlinks. The first result has 114. My site has 144 backlinks, and the main keyword in the domain, and title.

Should I continue building backlinks, and hope to be noticed by Google and bumped way up? Or is it time to move on?

One thing I learned is that SEO takes time, even for uncompetitive niches. Sometimes a site ranks instantly, but I consider that good fortune instead of the rule. I would say: stick with your link building, keep it varied and consistent. You should see decent results a couple of months in. In the meantime work on other (new) projects as well!

Make sure you are only ever paying attention to exact match numbers in the keyword tool.

Yes, keep building links and get them from as many different places as you can.

It was exact match both times, I'm 100% sure. Seems almost all my keywords I was targeting on my sites have seen significant drops in monthly searches according to the tool, with exception to 1 that has increased. I've heard others have seen this too.

I'll keep building backlinks, though it is a little frustrating to know my site should already be high up on the first page.
