It might take a plane flight for you to open it, but in Australia for example you can get access to Net Banking accounts. Basically they link to a checking/savings account, and only allow online access to them (but transfers to and from are free and 24/7 instant.) I also don't mind having funds outside of the states either. Some of them do introductory rates which give you an extra 1-2% for 3-6months, so you just open a new one around the expiry time and transfer the sum over.
The only annoyance is exchange rates, gotta be careful what countries you play with. The greenback is shit right now though, so there is plenty of room to benefit.
