eh, i dont see what the big deal is. i agree with plepco's comments. the guy didnt feel right about it and refused to do it, and in instances like that he hands them off to another judge. whats the problem? the goal should be to get married, it shouldnt be to get married by a certain judge.

my friend is a pastor and two of our friends wanted him to do their wedding, and he refused due to some differences in belief/lifestyle. no hard feelings, they just found someone else. life goes on.

He is an elected official and has a right to deny marriage licenses. This is common in same-sex marriages.

So, if what he did was inside the boundaries of the law, why should he "be fired" and lose is pension?

His explanation is actually true. Interracial marriages do have a substantially higher probability of divorce.

I happen not to agree with the guy, but I don’t think his life should be destroyed because of that. He didn’t break the law and the couple can still marry.

He should "be fired" and "lose his pension" because that is completely unacceptable behavior for someone in that position. If anyone ruined his life it was him.

Whether the justice's actions were justifiable or not, this episode underscores the oddity of state jurisdiction over the union of two people.

In a few hundred years, I wonder if folks will marvel that couples once asked the state for permission to exchange marital vows.

I have to put up with living next to the biggest casino in Europe, a micro-climate that gets good weather all year around, needing to hear the noise made by MotoGP and F1 events, tennis opens, golf tournaments and sailing competitions.
