Which affiliate here sold this software (SkyGrabber Website Cache. ) to the insurgents?!? Treason!!!

Lulz... ;)

(btw, the drones are now encrypted and safe :) )

Officials assumed the vulnerabilities would not be exploited?
Seriously, how fucking retarded is the US Military Intelligence? Assume that enemies are advanced as you are. Fundamental assumption in all conflicts, so that way, you're not caught with pants down when they have technology superior to what you would assume.

Jesus... I'm just astounded that the assumption that all people in the mid-east (that aren't Saudi or Israeli) are some sort of cave dwelling Amish with beards and a grudge has worked its way into the military.

This was embarrassing...

And the insurgents did it with a $26 software program... :sadcrying4:

I thought for sure video transmissions coming from a Predator would be encrypted to boot. I mean any data transmission in the military should be secure.

Kinda got me curious about the SkyGrabber software though... wonder what else one could pick up with it?

I think they are safe now. No one is capable or interested enough to break encryption.

More safe...they aren't bare-assed, at least. Going without encryption at all was embarrassing.

You mean them brown folk know t' use computers? :eek7:

Seriously though, I know a guy who's one of the top network security people in the world and he was telling me about how people in the US military had mistakenly thought that communications done through TOR were impossible to intercept, rather than just anonymously sent, so in Iraq they were sending classified info by email and insurgents were intercepting them. I guess they know now, but seriously, don't they have experts supervising those things?

I heard something similar about embassies using TOR thinking it would secure all their correspondences.

Ya I read another article and could not fucking believe the video was not encrypted.. I mean what the fuck.
I program and everything I send over the net for my programs is encrypted. Unfuckingbelieveable.

I agree with you on the fact that the military should assume that our enemies are as advanced (or more advanced) as we are. Had an interesting discussion a couple weeks ago with some of my peers that think that certain systems we use are so advanced that they cannot be compromised, a very dangerous mindset to have for any system in my opinion. But then again I'm just a junior NCO, what do I know eh?

Isn't everything that goes through TOR encrypted?

Besides, the way I hear it in Afghanistan the embassy routers have an odd tendency to turn up with sniffers :338:

Hmm, I still don't see how the insurgents captured TOR data, but whatever. Embassy should've been encrypting their shit before it went into TOR as SOP.

Ah well, all the stories just prove there will be a place for me in the comp sec world once I get out of college :D

I keep my car unlocked with my laptop sitting on my front seat because I am going to just assume that people in my crime ridden neighborhood won't have the capabilities or desire to open my unlocked door and take my shit.

Assuming you don't have to encrypt top secret video feeds that give away every single bit of advantage you may have is fucking retarded. We're not fighting a damn jungle tribe.

As far as I gathered, they knew from the start that the drone transmissions were not encrypted.

Seriously, WTF?

Hope the steering commands are encrypted on those armed drones.

::emp::

Check this vid out... @ 1:56

It sounds like "they can see our video".

The vid is dated Sept. 19, 08'.

lol, I just happened to discover that, weird, but probably nothing. (or it was just a known fact for awhile)

Anyway, that vid is about the next-gen Predator called the Reaper which costs twice as much at $50 million, but is built from the ground up to be a "hunter". Pretty fucking awesome.

Also, remember Minority Report?

Cool.

All the insurgents could do was watch video.....

They got to see special events such as these happen.

Anyway, there's a shit ton of videos like this... I'm glad insurgents got to see some of that, while being completely helpless. Good for them.

Wouldn't it have been awesome if one of the insurgents was watching the live video feed of himself 'bout to be blown to "paradise"?

lol, I just happened to discover that, weird, but probably nothing. (or it was just a known fact for awhile)

On second thought, he was probably talking about our men on the ground.
