If i want to use wordpress, do I install it through fantastico from my hosts cpanel? or do I use my FTP client (fetch)? I had it installed through fantastico, and it was fine but then it didnt show up in my FTP when I wanted to upload a theme for it. And so I uninstalled it through fantastico and just downloaded wordpress manually and uploaded it into my FTP, but now I cant even access wordpress when I go to my domain.

WTF???:angryfire::angryfire::angryfire:

Just install it through your fantastico Cpanel, once you do so stop using ftp and instead use your cpanel file manager.

so i shouldnt use an FTP at all?
when I try to upload anything into my file manager through cpanel, it doesnt let me pick a folder....it will only let me upload a single file...??

Nah don't give up...this was the stuff I was most scared of but if I can figure it all out then anyone can. ;)

I still struggle with it though. I managed to fuckup one of my domains last night with installing wp and then deleting some files in my ftp and then uninstalling wp and not uninstalling completely or something. There is some file some where that Ican't see and it's driving me insane...

So anyway hang in there you'll get it (maybe)

What I do is keep regular backups, if I end up mis-deleting something then I can just use the back up and fix the problem.
Another thing is to stick with fantastico, if there is an update it's not necessary to have it right away fantastico truly is fantastic.

"some file some where that Ican't see" turn on show invisible files in cpanel's file manager and or make sure you are looking in the correct directory, especially with a bunch of add on domains it is easy to lose track of where you actually installed stuff.

I think I've done all that...I've gone around in circles here...I'm about ready to give up the domain and move on. I'm pretty sure I erased all databases. I manually did it. Yet when I try to reinstall word press it still says I have a "script already installed on the directory" Enough to drive a person insane.

Heh. Sorry, I didn't mean to come in here and hijack the thread..but I guess OP figured out his issue anyway.

I'm pretty sure it is the config file too, but what, I don't know. I guess I'll ask Subigo since Zensix is hosting it. Poor Subigo :(

You probably deleted the fantastico_fileslist.txt file by accident. It tells fantastico what's installed and if you delete it, it won't let you reinstall anything else because it thinks you already have a script in there. There's a quick and dirty fix...

When you go to install wordpress choose the subdomain version of the domain instead. Then go in to the wordpress settings and change your url's to the main domain... It'll install to your addon directory, but fantastico won't give you problems because it thinks it's a different folder.

Of course if it's a subdomain already that your having issues with you'll need to open a ticket and ask the support guy to forward it to our admin so he can fix it for you.

Oh... and check your .fantasticodata directory via ftp... You should have an install_in_root.php file (or something like that) in there and there is probably a line you can comment out for the domain. Also check the "Wordpress" folder in the .fantasticodata folder to see if the domain still has an entry.

Fantastico is much faster at installing wordpress than ftp is. I almost always install it from the cpanel, but upload a new theme using filezilla. I manually change many files, so ftp is just more convenient in that aspect. Definitely, keep plugging away at it. Eventually, you will get it. Then from there on out it will be a no brainer for each new installation.
