Apparently it's a post penguin update method of getting back to the top. What are your thoughts?

My only thought would have to be thank god for filtering web pages using custom black lists, for once i forgot to look at the URL before I clicked.
All I can say is im not sure what the site is but thank god for my black lists
The way I look at it:
Black Hat SEO - Anything to try to "force your hand" with Google, back linking, hard core on-page optimization (such as displaying different content for google and users, etc).
White Hat SEO - Anything approved by google, basic on-page optimization, sitemap's, etc.
I could write tons more on this topic but its time to go grab a few beers at the bar after work
